Exposing the Film: Shutter Island 2/28/10

So i haven't done a movie review in about a month, but that's because of 2 reasons: a) i haven't been interested in anything in the theaters; b) i've been having more fun writing about fashion here on Oh to Be a Muse (especially since my recent posts have correlated with fashion week).

But, alas, i took a few hours out of my weekend and went ahead and saw this little leo dicaprio/martin scorcese flick known as Shutter Island.

i won't put too much in this review as not to give anything away to those who plan to see the movie, but i will say this:

-it was visually appealing. i don't know if i've ever seen a scorcese movie as pretty as this one--and i'm not just referring to leo. the costumes were also really great--very 1950s and authentic. check out the look michelle williams is rocking.

-my fiance kept leaning over to me and whispering in my ear: "what the fuck is going on?" and honestly, i had no answer for him because i was thinking the same thing. what was going on? and why isn't anyone telling me? the movie was almost 2.5 hrs of complete wtf...up until the last 15 minutes.

-as with just about every scorcese/dicaprio film, it was well written and well acted. but it was missing in one regard--the ending. not saying it was a bad ending (someone wrote on one of those comment walls: "dumb and confusing" while someone else wrote: "i would see it again"), but when i was in the car driving home i actually came up with a better ending. i'm not going to inform you because, like i wrote earlier, i don't want to ruin anything from anyone who plans to see this movie, but i'm telling you--i came up with an ending that would rival The 6th Sense.

mr. scorcese, if you are reading this (and i'm certain you are not), please comment if you'd like to know my awesome ending that would probably garner at least an extra 14% on rottentomatoes. true story.

so i would say that if you are a fan of dicaprio/scorcese, or if you enjoy psycho-thrillers, or if you can't think of a better movie to see right now, then take a couple hours out of your day and see this. but i do think it will be a movie that gets lost in the shuffle after a few months.

and what i'm really excited about is this coming weekend when another duo (depp/burton) take on Alice in Wonderland! can't wait...

affordable fashion...loves it

i'd like to start by saying that although i really enjoy fashion and simply looking good i don't always enjoy shopping. the art of shopping can sometimes be annoying going from store to store, waiting in long lines, and dealing with employees who obviously wish they had something better to do than help you get that gorgeous top hanging 10 feet too high. this is what Oh to Be a Muse is about. but yesterday i went to miami and was just looking for one dress--and as you can see, i ended up getting other things...sans dress.

my birthday is coming up: yay! i got all the tops at the same place, the jeans aren't new and some of the jewelry i already had. i also love the hat, and i think it's great with my hair.

hope you like the shoes; i should wear them more. not sure which of these i'm wearing to my birthday dinner, but i guess i'll figure it out--or you can help. next time i'll take pictures with some tights as I now realize that they would've looked good in some of these shots.

i actually had to crop my dog out of these shots. i think he's a big fan of fashion or cameras...maybe both. but that's OK because he's actually quite photogenic.

happy early birthday to me!

[still] winter wonderland

Since the Alice in Wonderland movie is just around the corner, I thought it would be fitting to post some pictures of the Alice in Wonderland Vogue fashion shoot by Annie Leibovitz.

I am super excited about this movie, and I will most definitely post a review on Oh to Be a Muse after I've seen it. For now, please enjoy the amazing fashion inspired by Alice.

***this shoot was actually back in December 2003 and includes: Tom Ford, Helmut Lang, Marc Jacobs, Chanel...just to name a few***

AMAZING!

...and the movie opens March 5!

tress to impress

so along with my white dress for my wedding i will need a new hair style. a fashion look on Oh to Be a Muse is not complete without a good do. i love, love, love naturally curly hair.

it'll be the one thing that i hope my future kids never ruin. be kind to your natural tresses, kiddies.

so here are a few pics of women and their naturally curly hair. for the most part, i believe the hair is in fact all natural (not counting all of beyonce's hair).

love this top, btw ----->>>

these are a few pics of some great looks, of which i wouldn't mind copying for the big day. i chose these pics to provide some variety because i think naturally curly hair is quite variable and truly, truly pretty.

plus, i love thandie's eye shadow in this pic as well.

also, thanks everyone for helping me decide on my reception dress--this is what it is called apparently...a reception dress!

i've decided to go with.....drumroll.....Dress #2!

i've found a local store that carries what i'm looking for, and i can't wait to play dress up. i think it is best for me to go with a dress that is a bit different and one that would really stand out.

little white dress

so...i need a white cocktail dress for my wedding! i want to wear my wedding dress for the majority of the night, but i don't want to have it on the entire time. i don't want to spill anything on it or have a hard time getting low and whatnot. so i need to find a second dress--and i think this is becoming more popular--and i'd like it to be a white cocktail dress. basically, i'm finally adding some fashion to Oh to Be a Muse and i'm looking for something in this style...lend me your ear, put down your thoughts...
