Dinner and a Drag

Over the weekend, I went with my hubby and in-laws to this great place called Lips, which touts itself as the ultimate in drag dining.

Do you like what I wore?

I actually bought the lace blazer on my way to the show. The blazer has a scalloped trim, a hook closure in front, and ruched shoulders with padding.

You might remember this heart print top from my trip to H&M in this post.

I like to call this photo The Women. These are all my hubby's girls--his aunt, his grandma, his mom and me.

What a bunch of fashionistas, am I right?

On to the show! These are only 2 of the many performers from the Sunday Gospel Brunch special. Basically, the ladies did vivacious lip-singing to various gospel songs.

The lovely lady on the right is Nicolette, the emcee who provided us with great jokes and a wonderful performance of her own to Michael Jackson's Man in the Mirror, where she literally stripped down to her true self as you can see.

How about the name of those drinks? They also served great food!

I know there is a Lips in New York as well. They have different shows on different days like Bitchy Bingo, Dinner with the Divas, and Retro Superstars.

Have you ever been to a show like this?

Imperfect Perfection: Black Swan

Every now and then a movie comes around that is full of high-action, full-on drama, and total seductive creepiness. Usually, that movie is outfitted with a strong-willed and muscular male with a ton of testosterone.

This time, the lead in this intensely weird drama is portrayed by a less than 100-lb anal-retentive veteran ballerina who is way too paranoid to save herself.

Black Swan stars Natalie Portman as Nina Sayers, a ballet dancer who strives to be perfect when she lands the lead role in Swan Lake.

In the role, she must honestly play both the white swan and the black swan. Her determination to be perfect leads her to a schizophrenic break.

Her break is catapulted by an extreme cast of characters: her over-protective mother venomously played by Barbara Hershey; her pompous director characterized by Vincent Cassel; and her seductive alternate portrayed by Mila Kunis.

All I can say is this movie is a true work of art. The actors are honest and compelling, the soundtrack is overwhelmingly alluring, and the cinematography is very original.

There are certainly times when you aren't aware of what's real and what's illusion, especially since Portman's character is unsure of herself.

Director Darren Aronofsky has a taste for the weird and eclectic, as seen in his previous movies like Requiem for a Dream, The Fountain, The Wrestler and Pi.

Although I was a bit confused at times and totally freaked out at other times, I did feel like this movie lived up to my expectations.

It certainly gave you a lot to talk about, even if you felt like the film was difficult to keep up with or "a lot of work" as my hubby would say.

I definitely think you will have to see Black Swan for yourself to really understand it. It's a bit reminiscent of Inception, in how it keeps you wondering.

The movie is almost 2 hours of thrilling scenes that lead to a beautiful black swan performance given by Portman. But again, you have to see it for yourself.

So, all in all, I would have to give this movie 4 out of 5 hearts!

OOTD: Trail Blazer

Wow! It was in the 30s the other day. Can you believe it's finally getting cold here in south Florida? Over the weekend it was a bit warmer so I took the opportunity to mix together a summer lace look with a fall blazer. What I adore about this blazer is its ruched sleeves and pretty inner lining.

Recognize the pumps?
These are the Christian Siriano's that you can see in my header.

Lace top -- Charlotte Russe
Blazer - Charlotte Russe
Jeggings -- Forever 21
Pumps -- Christian Siriano
Jewelry - For Love 21 and Max & Chloe

Do you like this look?

Also, I'm going to see Black Swan tonight and I can't wait!

I'll be doing a review on it afterward.

It was finally released here, but I know it's been out in other places already.

Have you seen it?

And check out Nicole Richie's wedding dress!

There aren't many photos of it online just yet, but it is designed by Marchesa (love, love, love).

Apparently it was 1 of 3 dresses that made the cut.

I didn't see the other two but I think this was perfect for her whole "over the top, coming to America, blah blah" theme.

What do you think of it?

Also, I won two more giveaways! I really don't know how this is happening all at once because I never win anything.

It must be the season.

This is a Perricone giveaway from the lovely Sweet!

And this Apothica $25 giveaway from the awesome Audrey!

Thanks ladies!

Mad About January

Have you seen these racy photos? I won't lie, I don't really even watch Mad Men (I know...don't hate me), but I definitely know the characters.

I think it's kinda cool seeing January Jones outside of her usual Susie Homemaker look, don't you? Plus, she's covered in accessories!

According to Donatella Versace, she was looking for the perfect woman for the 21st century and January just happened to be it:

"I am always on the lookout for the next
Versace blonde,"

"and in
January I feel I have found a perfect Versace woman for the 21st century."

Honestly, I didn't even know it was her since this shoot is a bit different from her usual look and attire.

It's a long way from 1963-Betty Draper.

All the accessories are, of course, by Versace--from the sunnies to the bag and the stilettos.

What do you think of this Versace S/S 2011 ad campaign? Is it too risky or do you think it's cool?

Makeup & Muses: Recent Haul & Giveaway Winners!

When buying products for giveaways I always try to buy in bulk or store up on makeup or nail polish sets that I can either use for myself or put toward a future giveaway.

So instead of waking up at 4Am and getting trampled in numerous Black Friday lines, I decided to do my shopping online, which I LOVE.

ELF was having some great deals so I bought 2 100-Eyeshadow palettes for the price of one. Obviously, I don't need two of these things so one will definitely go toward a giveaway in the new year!

But to keep the palette thing going, I also got my hands on this 83-piece palette from Elf that comes in the cutest compact.

Here are photos of the huge palette with and without flash.

The collection comes with 64 eye shadows, 8 lip gloss colors and many more great cosmetics.

I will probably put this up for grabs in a new giveaway next year as well.

And I fell in love with those ELF polishes that were a part of my Holiday Giveaway.

They came in two different sets so I picked one for the giveaway and another for myself. I also ended up getting a cute french manicure set for free!

Can't wait to do some awesome NOTDs with these new colors.

And I've been using this skin tone evener, but I have not been impressed with it.

I ended up getting this new Aveeno moisturizer instead.

I haven't used it long enough to see any results just yet, but let me know your opinions if you've used it before.
Oh, and with all this talk about giveaways, I might as well announce the 2 winners of my Lanvin, Makeup, Jewelry & Nail Polish Holiday Giveaway!

First, let me say thank you to EVERYONE who participated in my last giveaway of 2010. There were a ton of entries so it took a while to go through each and every one.

I hope that you are following my blog because you really like it and not because you want free (and awesome) stuff.

If there is anything you'd like to see more of on my site then let me know! I love feedback.

2nd place:

Congratulations Ezzy!

1st place:

Congratulations Julianne!

Congrats to you lovely muses! You have 24 hours to reply and claim your prizes.
Oh, and December must be my lucky month because I won another giveaway! I won a Pepe Jeans Bag from The Dolls Factory, which was sponsored by Shop Alike!
