My Blue Valentine

Blue Valentine
Blue Valentine is directed by Derek Cianfrance and stars Michelle Williams and Ryan Gosling. I consider this trio to be a group of people who have really put truth into the word unexpected.

Blue Valentine would not have received so much attention if it didn't have such a film festival following. Cianfrance is not really a household name. He is a director who is probably better known for documentary films on musicians like Diddy, Mos Def and Annie Lennox.

(sidenote: Annie's daughter Tali is a big name on the young model circuit)

Ryan GoslingRyan Gosling has done a lot of memorable TV and film. But who would have thunk he'd be such a show stopper when he played Alan Bosley in Remember the Titans? To me, Gosling became a star to watch after he did Murder by Numbers, but obviously, his breakout role was Noah in The Notebook. And now--I couldn't tell you how many times the girls in the audience clapped when his face appeared on the screen.

Michelle WilliamsAnd what about Michelle Williams? Wasn't she just supposed to be crazy sex-fiend Jen from Dawson's Creek who could never get along with Grams, and who could never live up to Joey?

It seems to me that more people took notice of Michelle after Brokeback Mountain and Heath Ledger's death. The good thing is, I'm glad to see that she's no longer in Katie Holmes' shadow.

~~~
Blue Valentine ReviewBlue Valentine is a stunning portrayal of the coming and going of love. The story is non-chronological, so you get to witness how two people who are so obviously different used to be madly in love. Michelle's Cindy is a professional who dives head first into her job as a nurse as not to face the problems in her marriage. Ryan's Dean is a lover, not a fighter; who doesn't seem to have the same goals as his wife.
While watching the movie, I was hoping the projector would get stuck on all the scenes of Cindy and Dean in the past, back when they held each other, sang stupid love songs and danced silly jigs. Back when they were free to love.
Blue Valentine Movie
Every time the scenes went back to the present, my heart sank--knowing that their end was near.
The beautiful thing about Blue Valentine is that it's not typical in any way. Of course we've seen movies where couples break up, but they're not told in the same intense and artistic manner. You root for this couple because of the way Cindy looks at Dean and because of the love Dean obviously never lost for Cindy.
The shattering of their marriage reaches its climax when they try to spend a romantic night in the Future Room of a cheesy motel. It's really when Dean, Cindy and the audience become truly aware of the inevitable.
My last movie review was on Black Swan, and if I had to recommend two great movies of 2010 (and not just for indie film lovers), I would definitely put Black Swan and Blue Valentine on that list!
5 of 5 Hearts!
Makeup & Muses: Top 5 Makeup Products of Spring
Top 5 Makeup Products
Winter is ending and spring is near, so what better way to welcome the season than with makeup, right? For this makeup and muses, I've perused the web (do people still call it that?) in search of some great spring makeup collections. The competition was fierce, but I think I've found some winners. Feel free to let me know if your fave items aren't on my list!
Here are my Top 5 Makeup Products of Spring!
Stila Makeup
The Stila Make Me Blush Palette is perfect for all skintones and super blendable. Plus, it features a unique Valentine's Day-inspired heart design!
Matte ELF
The Matte Lip Color by ELF
is perfect for spring,
especially when it comes in such
pretty shades like coral and praline
all for a great price.
MAC Lip The MAC Tinted Lip Glass is great for the girl who just wants a touch of color. It's dramatic look is meant to be worn alone, but it's just as wonderful with lipstick as it also conditions the lips.
Makeup Forever
The Star Powder by Makeup For Ever adds a bit of sparkle to your eyes with just one brush. It's fine so it can be applied over other makeup. The best part is that it comes in more than 30 different colors!
Urban Decay
Everyone loves a good eye pencil, especially when it's the 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil by Urban Decay. The pencils are all waterproof, and it's called 24/7 for a good reason. Once you apply,
you don't have
to worry about smudging.
And no one likes smudging!
AlvinaAre you jonesing for some new jewelry? If you are looking for eye-catching baubles then take a look at my Inspiring Style: January Jewels.
These are a few of my favorite jewelry pieces for the month of January.
The Elizabeth Showers Simone Eternity Bracelet comes in beautiful colors inspired by the ocean. It might be January, but these bracelets will remind you of relaxing on the beach.
Joanna Laura
Another wonderful January Jewel is the Avanessi Rose Gold Love Knot Ring.
The ring comes in 14k rose gold and features a beautifully stylized knot design.
Avanessi also makes this ring in both shimmery yellow gold and stunning white gold.
Start 2011 off right with a glam accessory like this
Alvina Abramova Spike Stella Ring for under $100.
The punk-inspired ring has a row of spiked crowns that jut out from the gold-plated piece.
The Joanna Laura Constantine Crystal Ball Bullet Ring is one of the most unique pieces I've seen so far this year.
The bronze-plated ring is perfect for the most stylish of fashion bloggers, with its five crystal-ball bullets.
The bullet ring adds some edge to your finger, plus it's just super cool!
ABS
If you are looking for a great statement piece for a night out, then look no further!
This
ABS Fringe V-Necklace is a cluster of mixed metals with an 11-inch drop!
And what says bold style like an 11-inch drop of silver and gold chains?
Yochi
Finally, I present you with not one, but two lovely January Jewels from Yochi.
The Yochi Green Ribbon Leather Cuff is actually made from green crocodile skin (sorry, animal lovers) that gives the piece an edgy feel.
The edge is contrasted by the super feminine bow on the top of the cuff.
And get wild with the Yochi Leopard Print Cuff, which will be a favorite among all you leopard lovers!
OOTD: Winter Coat
You all might not know this but I used to work at Max & Chloe. I was a product copywriter there last year. This, obviously, gave me many opportunities to get a TON of awesome jewelry pieces. A lot of the jewels I'm wearing in this post (and in many of my posts) are from Max & Chloe.
And when I drove almost an hour and a half to get to H&M for the Lanvin event, I was only about to pick up a couple of items as most everything was gone. I'm so happy--months later--that one item I picked up was this amazing trench coat. Every time I wear it out I receive a great compliment.
What do you think of my overall look?
(warning: this post is photo heavy)
Also, the American Beauty lipstick that I am wearing (it's very sheer, which is great for me because that's how I like my lipstick) is just one of many items that I won from Kaitlynn's awesome giveaway.
Are you ready for the Golden Globes tonight?
