Makeup & Muses: Makeup & More Giveaway! - Closed

Makeup and Muses

Thank you all for the birthday wishes and the great comments on my last post!

Recently, I went searching for that OPI black shatter nail polish, but of course, it was sold out everywhere. I went to Ulta and was quickly informed that they didn't have any left as it was "really popular" (duh)--but then she told me about the version by China Glaze (score!).

So I bought about 6 different Crackle polishes and some base coats. Forgive me if my crackling is not up to par as this is the first time I've tried this--more experimenting will occur in the future.

Lookbook: Birthdays & Big Hats

Lookbook: Birthdays & Big Hats

Today is my birthday. I'm 25 and fab!

It's amazing how much you shop at one store when it finally becomes an option for you. It's nice having an H&M in close proximity so yes, I've been shopping there a lot lately.

I actually went out to dinner and there was a 30-minute wait. Lo and behold, an H&M was right across the restaurant so, of course, I had to stop in and pick up these lovely wedges.

I bought the hat at an outdoor festival in Lake Havasu last weekend and I'm so excited about it. I've been wanting a big, floppy hat forever! The two brown bangles are also from the festival ($2)!

Since I have yet to purchase a snood, I just decided to wrap this scarf around my neck a couple times to give it that snood look.

Anyone having a problem with their sidebar gadgets not showing up?
Do you like my new layout?

Remember last year and the year before when Lauren Conrad was on TV all the time with The Hills and before that with Laguna Beach? (Team Lauren, all the way). And then MTV started filming for her new reality show that would be based around her new clothing line.

Well, although her new line, Paper Crown, has debuted, it seems like her reality show won't. MTV apparently was not fond of the show's direction--maybe because it didn't include a lot of backstabbing, bickering and fake boobs.

This is probably a blessing in disguise for LC as her show--which MTV called "too high brow" can now be marketed to Bravo or something. All I know is I would love to watch the making of this line because I actually really like it--I'd wear it all. I wish she were selling the collection at Kohl's, but much like the Rachel Zoe line, it's probably not in that price range. The collection comes out this fall.

March Editorials: Lea, Gaga, Mila & Katy

March Editorials: Lea, Gaga, Mila & Katy

Mila Kunis for W Magazine

Mila Kunis 2
Mila Kunis 1I absolutely adore Mila--and not just in these photos. She is actually my desktop background. I love how she has blossomed into this beauty icon. This is an example of what one great role--like her character in Black Swan--can do for you. 2011 is going to be her year.

Katy Perry for Elle

Katy Perry 1
Katy Perry 2Love her or hate her, these photos are true Hollywood glam. The styling manages to keep things a bit different, which is how Katy likes it. I don't know--there's just something cool about the overall photoshoot. But yes, I kinda wish she'd stop singing Teenage Dream too.

Lady Gaga for Vogue

Lady Gaga 1
Lady Gaga 2Between you and me, I am kinda over Lady Gaga. Yes, I do think some of her songs are great; and yes, I do think she is an icon. But no, I am no longer wowed by her crazy speeches and wild outfits. So it's nice to see an editorial that features her in great couture gowns for a change.

Lea Michele for Glamour UK

Lea Michele 2
Lea Michele 1Gleek out! 2011 has been a very good year for Glee so far (how about that diva off between Rachel and Mercedes singing "Take Me or Leave Me")? Lea has had some ups and downs in the papers, but let's remember that although she plays a teen on TV, she's really 24. This editorial is a bit Rachel Berry and a bit Lea Michele, which probably works for everyone.

Which of these March editorials is your favorite?

Designer Collaborations for Forever 21 & A Winner!

Designer Collaborations for Forever 21

Rory Beca 1
Petro Zillia 1

Rory Beca 2
I love when I get to write about designer collaborations. It makes my heart swell!

For instance, Vera Wang is designing stunning gowns for David's Bridal in her White by Vera Wang collaboration, and even Justin Timberlake and Zac Posen jumped on the bandwagon, each with their own collections with Target.

Now Forever 21 is introducing two new designer collections. Petro Zillia's line debuted at Forever 21 Feb. 11.
Rory Beca 3
This spring collection by the L.A. label is super funky and definitely fits in with the Forever 21 mold.

The Petro Zillia label is designed by Nony Tochterman and is full of bright fuchsia, bold stripes and girly flair.

Coming March 4 is a collaboration with Rory Beca, which is designed by Rory Edelman.

The Rory Beca collection also hails from California, and it's easy to notice with its aire of flirty minis, printed dresses and rompers.

Keeping to the Forever 21 style, the clothing and accessories from both designers will fall within the $6 to $33 price range.

And these pieces can't be considered knock offs if they're actually collaborating, so that's definitely good news for F21.

All images are from the Rory Beca for Forever 21 line except for the top left dress in fuchsia, which is from the Petro Zillia collection.

Don't you just love that white dress at the top?
What do you think of the new collaborations?

Inspiring Style: Fun with H&M

Inspiring Style: Fun with H&M

H&M 2
H&M 1
I am such a big fan of H&M. And I find that now that I actually have two H&M stores so close to my house, it is virtually impossible not to shop there.

Some of you might have heard that H&M is planning to allow online shopping at the end of this year or at the beginning of 2012, so that's definitely a plus!

But since I can actually physically walk into a store and spend hours (and I mean, hours) trying stuff on, I think I'll continue spending a portion of my weekends in an H&M fitting room.

Last time I went to H&M I stocked up! This happens when you're not used to having a physical store location so close to you. I must have thought that the H&M was just a mirage and that it was only a matter of minutes before it vanished.

This new collection is super girly and feminine so I tried on tops, skirts, cardis--the whole nine!

But here is a look at what I actually took home with me...minutes before the store closed!

Blazer ~ $60 (a bit pricey, but I had to have it)

Organic cotton hearts dress ~ $20
(a great outfit for Valentine's Day)

Long-sleeve cardigan ~ $25

Fancy poncho ~ $25

What are your thoughts on my haul? And have you had any fun with H&M recently?

Grammys Red Carpet: Best of the Worst

Grammys Red Carpet

For the 2011 Grammys I didn't feel like doing a post about the best and worst dressed on the red carpet. Instead, I wanted to just pick some of the weirdest outfits from the night since the Grammys are more about individual style anyway.

Lady Gaga
Lady Gaga: Maybe 2011 will be the year we start to not care about her weird choice in clothing.

John Mayer
This is actually John Mayer trying to channel Johnny Depp--sorry, don't think so!

Hayley Williams
Nicki Minaj
Adam Levine
Ciara
Florence

Gramma Funk

Hayley Williams from Paramore -- not really much of an outfit, but what do you think?

Nicki Minaj -- I've seen her bride of Frankenstein wig before and this outfit is straight off the runway...the shoes are hot!

I must say -- I'm loving Adam Levine's parachute pants.

Ciara isn't wearing much, but I think it works for the Grammys, but maybe I'm the only one.

Florence from Florence & The Machine -- again, another runway look, but maybe a bit too matronly?

Oh Gram'ma...she is definitely not lacking in certain areas!

Valentine's Day for Men

So it is Valentine’s Day and we ladies probably have our entire outfit already planned and ready to go. And while our male counterparts aren’t known for thinking ahead, that doesn’t mean that the gents shouldn’t have impressive outfits for this special day too.

Here are a few items that your guys might want to stock up on for today and all the future Valentine’s Days as well!

1. Accessorize – Just because you’re a guy doesn’t mean you can’t have fun with accessories. These silver Valentine’s heart cufflinks by Thomas Pink not only add to your sense of style, but also make you a hit with the ladies. Like we all already know, it’s all about the details.

Cuff Links

What’s also great about Valentine’s Day is a lot of guys can pull off red and black. So why not continue the color scheme all the way down to your skivvies? These Valentine’s boxer briefs by Ralph Lauren are made of stretch cotton and waistband piping in the contrasting colors.

Underwear

2. Spread Your Scent – Women love a man who smells good, especially on Valentine’s Day when senses are heightened. Spray yourself in memorable scents Acqua di Gio by Armani. The well-known set includes a combination of scents that are reminiscent of herbs in a spray, a deodorant and an after shave balm.

Giorgio Armani

If herbs and spices aren’t what you’re going for, then choose the Armani Black Code gift set instead. This set includes more fresh and seductive scents that are perfect for February 14. Get the essence of Armani style with just three little bottles.

3. Top Off Your Look – Finish your Valentine-inspired look with form-fitting, stylish clothing. Cover up in this silk cotton v-neck sweater by Kenneth Cole. The sweater has a slight rib-knit v-neck, which adds some sexy without going overboard. The lightweight silk cotton sweater looks great by itself or when dressed up with a tie, jeans and jacket.

Kenneth Cole Sweater

Complete your already hot look with this Sanyo Juniper 3-in-1 coat. The coat adds some edge to your style and looks perfect when layered over jeans. Featured in soft microfiber, this coat is definitely comfortable, which all guys like. You can wear it in three different ways, like zipping it up, wearing it with the removable vest liner, or wearing the vest alone.

Happy Valentine's Day!
