H&M: The Conscious Collection

hm-conscious-collection
You've probably already heard about the anticipated H&M Conscious Collection, which is set to debut in stores April 14.

There has been a lot of buzz surrounding the collection partly due to the fact that the H&M Garden Collection from last year was such a huge success.

The sustainable and organic ensembles of last year's Garden Collection has had a resounding effect on H&M, as their Conscious Collection is also made of sustainable materials such as organic cotton, tencel and recycled polyester.

The simple look features a lot of tailored pants, cut-off shorts and flowy tops. And if you're looking for a white blazer for spring then this collection will fit your needs.

I don't think I've been this excited about H&M since my inspiring style post about Lanvin. Here are my three favorite ensembles from the H&M Conscious Collection.

Makeup & Muses: No Makeup, No Muses

Makeup and Muses

wmag-70sAnother manic Monday...

Do you ever feel a bit lacking? I mean, I've been blogging for a little more than a year now and there are times when I need to step away to really dive back into things--if you know what I mean. But after I got back from my vacation, I felt like I was lacking inspiration for my blog, which is really weird as I had a surge of blogging inspiration last month.

Actually, while perusing fashion blogs lately I've found a few people who said they had recently lost their inspiration as well. Is something going around? I mean, my site is called Oh to Be a Muse, and a muse is someone who inspires. So if I don't have the inspiration then how can I pass it along?

For now, I have no makeup and I have no muse. But I am doubtful that will last long as I'm sure we, as fashion bloggers, have all felt this way at some time or another. Gah--so emo sounding, am I right?

Anyway, enough about me. The photos of Adriana Lima & Liz Taylor displayed here do actually inspire me, and I hope they do the same for you.

Editorial: Arizona Muse

Editorial: Arizona Muse

arizona-muse-vogue-italia
My model crush of the moment is Arizona Muse. I actually featured her on my site back in December when she posed in the Family Circus editorial for W Magazine. It's been a monumental time for Arizona as she was recently named the Model of the Season after being featured in 64 shows.

arizona-muse-vogue
This New Mexico native only started in 2008 and took a bit of a break from modeling to have her son.

But now she's back and definitely making a name for herself--and what a name that is!

I must say, part of her appeal for me was definitely the fact that her name is Arizona Muse because I now live in Arizona and my site is obviously called Oh to Be a Muse.

It was fate, right?

She's even caught the attention of Anna Wintour so I would say she's in good company and has a bright modeling career ahead.

What do you think of this editorial of Arizona Muse?

Lookbook: Fashion and Festivals

Lookbook: Fashion and Festivals

This past weekend was spent with family coming into town. We had a packed weekend driving around, climbing mountains, going to art fairs and seeing shows. It was great because we were actually able to do a lot of things that the hubs and I hadn't yet gotten around to since we moved to Arizona.

We went to the theater and saw "Sex & the Second City" which was like an improvisational play performed by members of the popular Second City theater.

ballet-sculptureThis really cool ballet sculpture, and many more, lined the outside of the theater. I thought it was cool.

crop-topAnd this is what I wore to the show. The crop top I've worn before in a fashion outfit post, but this time I paired it with this new Forever 21 top. I'm also wearing my fairly new black H&M wedges that I wore back in this lookbook post.
~~~
We also went to this arts festival that showcased a ton of great, original sculptures, paintings, metalwork, clothing, etc. I thought these two pieces were too great not to share!
painting2
painting1Oh and at the festival they were serving Skinny Girl Margaritas so I had to have one, even though I'm not a big fan of margaritas. It was pretty good though overall.
This is what I wore to the festival. This is my fedora that I am absolutely in love with, along with my Charlotte Russe blazer that I had to eventually take off because it was just too darn hot.
new-shortsMy shorts and belt are from H&M and the new fab shoes are from Forever 21--even though I swore I was never buying shoes from there again. I couldn't help it with these heels!
The purse is a Pepe Jeans London bag that I won from a giveaway by Dolls Factory that I mentioned in a makeup and muses post.
Funny story: In the middle of the "Sex & the Second City" play I realized that the Target Go Collection was available in stores that very day. Of course, I couldn't just leave in the middle of everything, although you would think saying, "Sorry guys, but Proenza Schouler is on sale" would justify any mad dash.
Instead, I waited until intermission when we were able to use our phones and bought this Rodarte lace print dress online. I couldn't help myself! But I gotta tell ya, I felt so much better after that. Would you have done the same?
Happy St. Patty's Day!
Makeup & Muses: Looks for Spring
Makeup and Muses
nars
Nars Duo:
The Nars Highlighting Bronzing and Blush Duo is a great choice when it comes to Spring Makeup. For all you makeup muses out there, it would be beneficial to pick up this limited-edition duo, which features Orgasm blush and Laguna bronzer.
The natural look of the duo will give you a glow this spring. Find it at your in stores or online at Sephora.
♥ The Romantic Twist:
romantic-twist
The Romantic Twist is a great hairstyle that has been seen all over recently. It's easy to do even thought it looks a bit complicated.
This look was seen on the Alice and Olivia runway and was fashion by stylist Thomas Dunkin.
The back is the easy part, consisting of a typical loose bun held together with hairspray and pins. The sides are where the action is at!
Use volumizing spray and a center part to twist your hair at each side. Capture it all together into the bun.
The Romantic Twist is very feminine, which is great for the spring, plus it keeps your hair off your neck, which will do wonders in the summer.
♥ Go Matte:
Matte is where it's at! The matte lipstick trend is definitely still in effect and a perfect look for spring.
Nars, once again is on my list, as their Pure Matte lipsticks line will be another must-have in your floral or striped spring goodie bag.
The lipsticks manage to be highly pigmented, yet still very much matte. Be sure that before you put on the lipstick you dress your lips in a moisturizing balm. Remove the lip balm entirely before you start the matte process.
pandalips♥ Lipstick Designs:
This is just one of the many animal-inspired lipstick designs by Paige Thompson.
She calls it "Animal-ipstick" and she's created pandas, cats, bumblebees and many more.
Now, I'm not saying this is a "look for spring" or anything like that. I just thought it looked cute and fun, no?
What's Are Your Makeup Looks for Spring?
By the way, I will be on a vacation starting tomorrow and won't return until Monday. I have scheduled posts set to go live, but I won't be able to reply to your wonderful comments until I return. So please keep leaving your comment luv as I promise to get back to your inspiring blogs!
I will also post the winner of the Spring Makeup Muse giveaway when I return.
Movie Review: Red Riding Hood
Movie Review: Red Riding Hood
redriding1The other night I went to see Red Riding Hood with my hubby. I can't say that I was anticipating this movie, but I was definitely interested in seeing it. Let me start this movie review with the disclaimer that the movie was directed by Catherine Hardwicke, who is known for directing Lords of Dogtown and Twilight. So knowing that, I went to see the movie anyway.
Red Riding Hood is portrayed by Amanda Seyfried and also stars Billy Burke, Virginia Madsen and Gary Oldman. Amanda's character Valerie is in love with a childhood friend but is engaged to be married to another man. On top of that, her little medieval town is being haunted by a werewolf.
The townspeople call in a religious man--played by Gary Oldman--who apparently has gone into towns and rid people of other big, bad wolves before. (And this might sound odd but for some reason I have a tiny crush on this old man). Oldman's character, Father Solomon, has a very different way of dealing with werewolves and basically begins to terrorize the village himself by announcing that the werewolf is someone in the town, that everyone will be watched and searched, and that the werewolf will be killed--no matter who it may be.
Now, Valerie believes that anyone could be the wolf, including either of her suitors (think Edward and Jacob) or even her dear grandmother--and yes, they do that whole "what big eyes you have" thing. Amid all this, Valerie discovers that the werewolf can speak to her and that he wants to take her away with him. She is then left to decide whether she will sacrifice herself for her family and friends or try to find out who in the town is the actual beast.
I must say, I actually found this film to be quite intriguing. It was intense, visually appealing, a bit funny and even had some cute boys. But, like I stated earlier, it was directed by Catherine Hardwicke, so it included those "moments of longing" a la Kristen Stewart's Bella that were just a bit too dream sequency for me. I give it 3.5 out of 5 hearts.
Inspiring Style: Top 5 Fashion Headlines
Inspiring Style: Fashion Headlines - 2nd Week of March
tisci
♥ Riccardo Tisci is the new face of Dior.
Tisci once worked with Givenchy, but has now taken his talents to the Dior showroom as John Galliano was ousted last week.
This Italian designer might not be the most famous of all the people who could have replaced Galliano, but he does have his own unique ideas about runway shows and the future of Dior.
I think we're all eager to see what he comes up with since all eyes will be watching...
ellery
♥♥ Designer Kym Ellery from Melbourne is one to watch. She isn’t exactly new on the scene, but she was recently nominated for the LMFF Designer Award.
Of course we fashion muses already have a handful of well known designers we are enchanted with, but that doesn’t mean we don’t have room for a few more talented people, especially with designs like the ones seen here. I’m also diggin’ the shoes.
kanyewest
♥♥♥ I distinctly remember having a heated phone conversation with my sister about four years ago regarding Kanye West’s College Dropout album.
Although I thought his songs were great, I really could not get behind his continuous statements (in his music and in general) that no one needs to go to college.
So imagine how taken aback I was to learn that Kanye has applied to get a Master’s degree in fashion at the Central Saint Martins College in London.
Other greats like McQueen, Stella McCartney and even some of my music faves PJ Harvey and MIA have attended the school. It’s too bad Kanye can’t apparently get into any fashion shows.
prabalgurung♥♥♥♥ And who isn’t in love with Prabal Gurung right now? I mean, anyone who can make a collection inspired by Miss Havisham is OK in my book.
Seriously, I’ve read Great Expectations, seen the movie version, and enjoy saying the name “Pip” just because.
According to Gurung, who’s dressed both Oprah and Michelle Obama, every woman should have a sheath dress, consider makeup resolutions like bright colors this spring and steer clear of short, tight dresses.
dovcharney
♥♥♥♥♥ Man, I thought the Galliano story was big last week—but that sort of pales in comparison to Dov Charney of American Apparel.
The AA head exec is in the news again after being accused and sued by a teenage employee for sexual assault. Can’t the fashion just be about the fashion again? She says she was forced to perform favors for Charney and is now suing him for more than $200 million in damages.
AA plans to file a complaint with the New York bar claiming conspiracy and extortion. Finally, all those racy American Apparel ads are now starting to make much more sense. I mean…honestly…
By the way, Chanel Iman is neither the next Tyra Banks nor Naomi Campbell. She’s the next freakin’ Chanel Iman!
