TGIF: The Friday Funnies

Going to lighten the mood this Friday while I'm away in Jamaica. Here are a few funny items I've found on the Internet recently that really tickled my fancy.

Can you believe it took the hubs 3 seasons to realize that Hodor only says "Hodor"?
Sh*t Bloggers Wear Tumblr (found this at the end of May)--It's funny because it's true. FYI: When I was in Dublin, I bought those Zara culottes/skort (knowing full well that everyone already had them), but I was just about to walk out the store and I spotted them and they were the last ones--and in my size--so I had to do it. Don't judge me.

Inspiring Style: The Right Swimsuit For You

Wearing swimsuits in the summertime can be overwhelming. Did you stick to your diet? What about your four-days-a-week workout regimen? Or are you still wearing the same suit you've had for the last 5 years? The most important thing to remember is picking the right swimsuit based on the style, your body shape and your confidence.

Why Wear a One-Piece
One-piece swimsuits and monokinis are sometimes thought of as the equivalent of granny panties for bathing suits. But I think that view has changed for the better over the years as one pieces have taken full advantage of their retro sex appeal. You can wear these if you're trying to minimize your faults, but you can also highlight your sense of style, especially if you happen to have an hourglass figure.Why Wear a Bikini
Because if you've got it, then flaunt it. Wearing bathing suits, and bikinis specifically, are 90% confidence and 10% style. And yes, I definitely think your suit should be stylish and show off your personality, but if you're not comfortable in it, then why bother? Add some flare to the usual bikini look with fringe and padded cups. Why Wear Bold Colors
Bold bathing suits really work for girls who could be called busty. Two-piece bikinis can work in your favor if this is your body type because you can separate the look. A brighter, more colorful bikini top can be paired with a solid, darker color for the bottom half on inverted triangle, round or apple body types.Why Wear Patterns
If you have a rectangular shape (maybe a bit boyish in nature) then patterned monikinis are your best friend. Volume created by ruffles, stripes and polka dots will make you look more shapely. Besides, who doesn't like patterned swimsuits? They're eye-catching and more fun than a regular LBB--little black bathing suit.What type of swimsuit are you into this summer?

Lookbook: Floral Mixing & Everyone's Favorite Shoes

I still have an outfit post to share with you while I'm away on vacation in Jamaica sipping on mojitos. But this is my last venture in printed shorts--not because I don't like them anymore, but because I've worn all the polka dotted, patterned and floral shorts that I own. And I'm ready to showcase some of my other closet talents.In early April I recycled some old clothes to H&M in exchange for this white floral top from the Conscious Collection. It's pretty comfy and I thought it would go well with these wedges, aka, everyone's favorite shoes. Follow me on Pinterest if you don't get that. It's been more than a year since I first posted these and I still get emails about them.| NYC City Duet 2-in-1 Empire Lilacs lipcolor | H&M Vanessa Paradis Conscious Collection white floral top | Towne & Reese Willow necklace | Target Mossimo floral lace shorts | Parisa G by Guess wedges | InPink geometric jewelry bracelet | Muse ring |What do you think of this look?

Movie Review: Man (Candy) of Steel

I'm not going to lie--I love the Dark Knight. But Superman has always been my homeboy. So I had to go see the new Man of Steel movie (and drag the hubs with me because he's not a Superman fan) last weekend. I'll start off by saying that the new guy playing Kal-El, aka Clark Kent, is Henry Cavill, whom you might remember from The Tudors (really good) or Stardust. I read that he actually auditioned for the role in the previous Superman movie, but was said to be too old. I'm glad he did the role now because he totally looks the part--finer with age.Anyway, enough with the man candy. Let's get to the review. This epic superhero movie, like all others, is more than 2 hours long, which is really, really long. The first half of Man of Steel is killer. I love the back story of Clark Kent as a child having to keep his powers a secret; his relationship with his human dad; and the tale of Krypton. It's also pretty funny when he meets Lois Lane and how he never calls himself Superman in this film.

Somewhere in the second half of the movie things got a little cumbersome. It did what I think a lot of action movies do and should never do: one too many battle scenes. So many buildings in Metropolis were knocked into that I was sure the citizens were going to make Superman leave simply for being a freakin' nuisance.

Also had those stupid "in the middle of fighting unnecessary one-liners" and kisses at unnatural times. I blame all action movies for succumbing to this terrible trend. It's not believable that people would talk so much when trying to kill each other or feel the need to passionately make out when the battle has not yet been won.

But it ended like it started, very well and even funny. I thought Henry was a great choice and so was Amy Adams. But for the sequel (because I'm sure it's in pre-production), go heavy on the emotional story line of Superman finding his way, and light on the fight scenes. Or Man of Steel will never rival The Dark Knight.
My Rating:

Movies I'm thinking about watching:
World War Z (watching tonight)....................Now You See Me
This Is The End.......................The Bling Ring
The Purge (watched--was decent).......................Fast & Furious 6

Have you seen Man of Steel?
(FYI: I'm officially on vacation)

Lookbook: Pink Chevron Illusion

It's been a busy week since returning home after being overseas. I went to the Startups & Style event in San Francisco hosted by Eventbrite that featured Lotus Premium Denim, Threadflip, Le Tote and more. I got a fun pink stars manicure done by Nail Jerks as well. The pink nails inspired the pink accessories in this look. And the very next day I hooked up with Dale of Savvy Spice and Elaine of Lotus Premium Denim for Blowouts and Bubbly at Drybar for free blowouts, cocktails and cupcakes. Their blowouts have the cutest names like The Cosmo, The Mai-Tai, Southern Comfort and more. And yes, they only do blowouts. | Layered Muse pink chevron necklaceTrinity Dress c/o Winter Lennon | Layered Muse bow buckle bracelet | Shoedazzle Erin pumps | Layered Muse star crossed lovers rings | What do you think of this look? What I'm Loving in June

The first day of summer is just one week away and I'm bathing in the warm weather and outdoor fun. These are just a few of the things that scream summer to me, and they're also what I'm loving in June...until I go on vacation to Jamaica, that is.| I know two-pieces are what's hot and all, but I have such a love for one-pieces, monokinis and boy short maillots right now it's not even funny. The retro vibe is killing it | Taking a break from my book club for some light magazine reading, starting with InStyle | It seems like every restaurant in the Bay Area offers bread pudding French toast or mac & cheese, and I tend to order them both because they are always delicious! | Rum is my alcohol of choice, so I'm totally looking forward to mojitos (with real mint leaves) in Jamaica this month | And then I'll top it off with the new seasons of Dexter and True Blood when I get back--can't wait for gory action |

What are you loving this June?

Makeup and Muses: Beauties of the Moment

Obviously, I'm more into clothing and shoes than makeup, but I do have some current beauty favorites that I've been fiddling with during this spring/summer season. So I'll tell you why these particular products are the beauties of the moment and why you should consider owning them.Olay Total Effects Anti-Aging Night Firming Treatment ~ the name is a doozy but the product is totally worth it. Now that I'm getting even closer to 30, I'm starting to see fine laugh lines, which isn't funny at all. So I use this cream religiously every night as the antioxidants in the cream are supposed to make the skin firm. I'd like to look 10 years younger for as long as I can. {Target ~ $19}

♥ I mentioned the 100% Pure Honey Almond Body Scrub in my What I'm Loving post and guess what? I'm still loving it, except now it's almost all gone. The organic rosehip and apricot oils are really what make your skin so extremely smooth without drying it out. It's perfection all year round. {100% Pure ~ $25}
♥ When it comes to mineral makeup, Lumiere has my number (ever since I first introduced them on the Muse in 2011). The Lumiere Fresh Roses Blush is my best kept secret for adding a pop of color. And that's coming from a girl who used to be scared of rosy cheeks. {Lumiere Cosmetics ~ $12}

♥ Now, my favorite eyeliner pencil is the Urban Decay 24/7 glide-on, but that can run you about $20 a pop. So a less expensive alternative is this NYC Kohl Brow/Eyeliner Pencil, which I like to use for under my eyes (as I stick to liquid liner for the top). This pencil can help give you a smoky look like that of the poker diva Liz Lieu who is very stylish when all glammed up--plus it glides on so well. And the fresh roses blush for rosy cheeks is sure to help with her poker face!

Back in high school, my friends and I would put together fun poker games on the weekends. It was a great way to spend time together and just hang out, especially since we were too young to play poker at the casinos at the time. Annie Duke was always one of my favorite female poker players to watch. Both she and Liz Lieu really stand out (with their makeup and their skills) in this poker playing boys club. {Target ~ $2}
♥ I'm not really a stickler when it comes to fragrances. I just like to have a high-end perfume and a mid-range version. Right now I'm into Goddess by Kimora Lee Simmons (seductive, bold, sensual blend). The way perfumes are described has always been weird to me. Not once has a man sniffed me and wanted to seduce me in an exotic wood garden. {Drugstore.com ~ $24}

♥ As you should know by now, I love natural hair and one of my favorite brands for curly girls is Organix, which I gave a shout-out to in a Makeup and Muses post in April. My go-to hair product right now is the Organix Moroccan Argan Oil Intensive Treatment. Not only does it deep condition your hair and leave it soft, but it also smells like heaven. If I could, I would use it as a second perfume and eat it too. {Ulta ~ $8}

Inspiring Style: To Do in Dublin

Currently, I am spending a few days in Dublin, Ireland. But before I arrived, I made a list of a few places I wanted to visit while over here. And, of course, I covered the most important things to do while in a different country: food, fashion, fun!

FOOD: I've heard great things about The Cake Cafe and I have a major sweet tooth. Everything is made to order. Looking forward to a slice of carrot cake or even the Guinness cake with the cream cheese icing. Then I'll finish off with some afternoon tea.

And at night I'll head to Kehoe's traditional Irish pub for some traditional Irish Guinness beer. I'm not even a beer drinker, but I suppose I can't go to Dublin and not drink Guinness, right?
FASHION: So the Loft Market is an NYC-style indoor fashion market featuring up-and-coming designers, boutiques and independent collectors. Sounds like the place to shop when in Dublin, and I'll certainly have some time to kill to pick up a thing or two.
FUN: Last, but definitely not least, is the fun part of the trip (although the food and fashion are totally fun as well). We'll take in a dinner and a show at The Irish House Party for traditional Irish music and dancing. I can't say that folk music is my jam, but it seems like the thing to do in Ireland.So this is what I'll be doing this week. Let me know if you've ever eaten, shopped or entertained at any of these places. Would love your feedback!
