Makeup and Muses: Halloween Makeup Looks

Halloween is upon us so I hope you muses are all geared up for the festivities with your costumes, candy and creepy crawlers. I thought I'd give you guys some fun Halloween makeup looks that you can accomplish for any last-minute costumes.

Pop art comic book girl is my absolute favorite look right now. Everything about it is super cool, and I actually haven't seen anyone do this in person yet, but I hope I get to see it this year. Cora of Vintage or Tacky has a superb tutorial on how to get the look.
Going grayscale is a Halloween makeup look that immediately caught my attention because it's so old school and recognizable. Plus, this makeup adds more texture to practically any film noir star of the 1940s like Vivien Leigh, Mae West, Dorothy Dandridge and more. Great tutorial by Whitney Avalon.
Cracked porcelain doll makeup is so much fun...and really creepy too. I think it's because of the juxtaposition of beauty and beast. You think you're looking at a pretty doll in elegant makeup, but really you're seeing a broken version of a doll that must have a unique story to tell. Lucero gives you a cool tutorial.

Quick story: When I was a child, I wasn't allowed to go trick-or-treating because my parents did not believe in Halloween. I've only ever done it once in my life, and I had to trick-or-treat in a mall because my parents thought it was safer than wandering through the neighborhood getting candy from somewhat strangers.

As an adult, I've enjoyed Halloween as a fun occasion to dress up. As a fashion blogger, you know I love to dress up. Of course, I've done my fair share of skimpy pirate wench costumes, but recently I've been into more creative looks like Jack & Sally from The Nightmare Before Christmas two years ago, and Daenerys Targaryen (aka Khaleesi) this year. Would love to be Neytiri next year.

What is your Halloween costume this year?

Lookbook: Short Skirt & Long Jacket

I know I've been wearing a lot of black lately, but I'm seriously into black and white combos this fall. However, I will consider not wearing this mini satchel...or this hat...or these shoes in the next outfit post. I will consider it, but I can't make any promises.

What I can promise you, though, is that I will have a really big holiday giveaway coming up in November to include some of the great items I received from the iFabbo swag bag and some wonderful accessories from Layered Muse, so you really have a lot to look forward to next month.

I wore this to the Topshop x Nordstrom event a couple weekends ago before heading out to see Carrie and eat shabu-shabu. Do you know what that is? Well let me just say that I am not impressed. I'm tired of going to places where I pay you to cook my own food. If I wanted to cook my own food then I would have stayed at home and had the hubs do it, lol.

Charlotte Russe blazer. Boy Meets Girl cutting edge tee. Zara mini skort. Shoedazzle Nardith by Sophia & Lee pumps. Target felt boater hat. Lor'e-jac spike-n-chain ring. 3.1 Phillip Lim mini satchel.

Muse Missteps & Mistakes

Never make the mistake of not packing flats. Whenever you have to spend an entire day in (semi-comfy) heels, you should always do your feet a solid and bring a pair of flats you can change into at the end of the day. Or even a pair of comfy Crossfit shoes or sneakers--whatever floats your boat--if it means your feet won't hate you in the morning.

No matter how "comfortable" you say your dreadfully fabulous heels are, they will never be as comfortable as flats. Never! And I don't ever want to be that idiot (again) walking around barefoot on the dirty city streets like a complete train wreck. So gross.
I'm freaking terrible when it comes to applying eye shadow and lipstick, which is why you don't see much of it on the blog. Either my shadow isn't pigmented enough and it doesn't look like I'm wearing anything, or I'm on the other side of the spectrum and the eye shadow is way too much, making me look like an accidental clown.

Lipstick is no better. I've always been into lip glosses and that won't ever change because lipsticks tend to make me look like I'm wearing fake lips. Bold colors over plump, and trust me, I don't really need any help in the lip plumping area.

I have a bad habit of wearing a handful of the sames clothes in my closet over and over again. Therefore, a have a ton of pieces that only see the light of day on special occasions, when they're in season, or when I feel bad and want to give them a spin. Because of this, I will some times take something from the back of the closet and put it on only to notice that it now has closet smell.

This is clearly caused by having a closet that's stuffed to the brim. So the moral of this story is to air out the clothes that you don't wear often in advance of wearing them, or keep some potpourri in your closet for the rare occurrence when you decide to break out the crop top in December. Or simply get rid of some of your shit.
If you don't know how to pronounce something, or you think you're pronouncing it correctly, but aren't quite sure, just Google 'how to pronounce..." and a YouTube link will say the name for you. Or you might even be able to hear it said in a Vine video.

I used to say all sorts of brand names incorrectly, i.e., Hermes and Miu Miu, but now I've figured it out thanks to Google. The same can be done for social media brands. Don't say the brand name incorrectly when you're talking to someone who works for the brand--that's just foolish. Let Google be your homeboy.

Featured Fashionista: Lindsey

Featured Fashionista
Lindsey from The Bay Area
Like my featured fashionistas in September, I met Lindsey at the Bloggerbelles at FashionElles event a few months ago. She has a love for Alexander Wang heels and a super sophisticated go-to black and white New York style that is almost unrivaled, especially here in the laidback Bay.

Lookbook: The Streets of San Francisco

So I had a diva moment at iFabbo and decided to change outfits for the cocktail party. Who does that? I do. I really wanted to wear this particular Helmut Lang dress because it's so chic and effortless. I paired it with these awesome Nardith heels, which are probably some of the coolest shoes I own.

I had a refreshing cranberry gin fizz at the cocktail party and said hello to a few more bloggers that I hadn't had the opportunity to meet earlier at the conference, but I couldn't stay long because I had been standing in heels (without insoles) for 12 hours and my feet were threatening to take me out to a back alley and shoot me.

The left is how I was feeling, but the right is how my feet were feeling. Damn you, hills of San Francisco. FYI: The title of this post is from a Michael Douglas TV show from the '70s.

What I'm Loving in October

I've been getting more than my fair share of Snapple this month. I can't help that it's so readily available, but I try to switch it up a bit. I get Mango Madness for the taste and Green Tea when I want to not feel so bad and convince myself that I'm being healthy. Plus, I learn so much just by reading the caps. Where else would I have found out that a group of goats is called a trip?

Hello fashion inspiration Gwen Stefani! This look is actually from a year ago, but I stumbled across it back on her birthday on Oct. 3. Sidenote: Can you believe this broad is 44? She is a total Betty! Anyhoo, I know plaid is all the rage now, but I don't feel comfortable in colorful squares, so I'd rather go with this black and white tartan style. Someone please let me know where I can get a dupe version of Gwen's pants.

Dexter and Breaking Bad might be over, but do you know what October means? The return of The Walking Dead Sundays and Scandal Thursdays. There's nothing better than some zombie gore and fast-talking government betrayal. Am I right?

After I found an awesome Helmut Lang dress that I wore to iFabbo (post coming soon), I've been all over this designer this month. This slouchy suit jacket would look so haute with a pair of Polo Ralph Lauren white shorts. Note: Now I just need some white shorts. White shorts are sort of like the devil to me, so I'd have to be very careful and make sure I buy the right pair.

So if you follow me on Twitter (and you should) then you might have remembered when I tweeted in September that TJ Maxx has officially launched an online store. Yes, that's right! Now we can all be maxxinistas online as well as in store. You can shop a good amount of TJ Maxx items online for women, including clothes, shoes and bags. Unfortunately, they haven't opened the door to men's items or home goods just yet. But hopefully that will happen some time in the near future.

What are you loving this October? I ask because I really do want to know.

Lookbook: i-Fab-u-lous

This is what I wore to iFabboSFCon on Saturday...and I think it was pretty i-fab-u-lous. I considered wearing Free People for the conference but instead went with this $3 Target find, which everyone loved. I opted for these super comfy Rag & Bone pants that I got on sale to complete the look.

And I got a lot of love about my Sally Hansen polka dot nail strips, but I gotta tell ya, these babies almost made me miss the conference. All the strips on my right hand came off the morning of, and I had to rush to make it work. Luckily, the left hand was still killing it.

iFabbo Outfit Ideas: Dresses & Shoes

Can someone please tell me to just get over cut-out dresses already? My eye still gravitates toward side cut-outs on dresses like these from Nasty Gal and Lulus. But I still don't know if I want to go with a short or a long dress for iFabboSFCon this month. Stripes, cut-outs, maxis? The possibilities might be endless, but I'd love some help in narrowing things down.

And don't get me started on Three Floor. I simply can't get enough of their dresses, and I think there is a high chance that I will snatch up one of these pieces. I just hope I can pull it off.

We all know just important shoes are when it comes to completing any look, but they are especially important at blogger events. Blogger girls rock the most fab shoes so I know that whichever pair I pick will be in great company.

Honestly, I want to get my hands on the Nardith heels from Shoedazzle, but these other showstoppers from Charlotte Russe have been making my head turn. I'm always surprised by the online shoe collection at the store. Which is your favorite?

Which dress or pair of heels do you think I should rock at iFabboSFCon this weekend?

Home Tour: Bedroom Living

Here are a few photos of my bedroom since I've been bitten by the decorating bug. I wish I had before and after photos so you could see how bland my place used to look and compare it to these current images. I used to have this thing about only decorating the main living area because I never stayed in a place for more than a year. But that has now changed, so the bedroom was the next room to get a face lift.

The open rectangular lamps and the candle holders were bought on sale from Target for like $35 total (for all four). I printed out this photograph of Mila Kunis (because I absolutely think it's one of the best images ever) and put it in one of those frames from Michaels.
A neighbor was selling this Crate & Barrel bookshelf for $25 so I bought two of them and am using one to display some of my favorite things like these Jeffrey Campbell sandals, 3.1 Phillip Lim mini satchel, some mags and this cute motion picture plaque I picked up while popping tags at Goodwill.
The bottom half of the bookshelf displays my go-to Parisa G by Guess wedges and Forever 21 heart stud flats, along with some of my jewelry and sunglasses. Quick fact of the day: There are three different decorations in my home that say "Live, Love, Laugh" and I only bought one of them. The other two were gifted, but it seems to be the home decor catchphrase so I'll display it.
I used to keep my nail polishes in the bathroom, but this little nook turned out to be the perfect place for them. The box came with a bag that my grandmother-in-law gifted me many moons ago, and the polishes are displayed by brand. I tried to do it by color, but the uneven bottle heights were driving me crazy!
Hats and scarves hang on the side of the closet door or on a hook from the door. I confess, I took all the space in the master bedroom walk-in closet and made the hubs use the closet in the guest room. I really need the space though, and he doesn't mind so it's OK. My shoes are placed on the shelves on top of the clothes and on the floor beneath the clothes. I should seriously consider selling more of my shoes. Let me know if you wear between a size 6.5 and 7 and want some shoes!

Do you keep your shoe boxes? I used to keep them and put my shoes on top until I ran out of space, so I just kept the two boxes that I loved the most. Now they've come in handy for stacking clutches.
Last, but not least, the bed itself. These tree branch stickers came from my favorite place, Target, and used to be in the living room until the hubs said they'd look great in the bedroom--and they sure do. The framed artwork was gifted to us by my mother-in-law and I love the symmetry they create over the his and hers nightstands.
What do you think of my bedroom decor? Decorated lately?

Lookbook: Black Hats On

The title of this post is a play on white hats on, which is a big thing on Scandal if you happen to watch the show--and you should. After many years, I finally found a black felt boater hat that I like. The funny thing is, I found it in the hat section at Target but it didn't have a tag on it. So they sold it to me for $3, which is awesome.

This past weekend I went to a bowling birthday party. It reminded me of the last time I went bowling, which was forever ago in high school. Back in high school, I never realized that you could drink at a bowling alley. And apparently, you can drink at amusement parks too. This made me come to a conclusion: I need to get to a theme park now that I'm old enough to drink. The teacup ride at Disney must be a hell of a lot more fun with wine.| 3.1 Phillip Lim navy ruffle tank | Prabal Gurung cape | Target felt boater hat | Sugarlips pants c/o FashionElles | Forever 21 t-strap velvet sandals |

iFabbo Outfit Ideas: Pants & Hats

For these conferences, I usually go with a dress, but I was thinking about switching things up this year and wearing some pants. San Francisco in October can be pretty cold, so pants would be more comfortable and add more dimension to a look, don't you think?

I mean, you can tell by these Forever 21 finds that there are a variety of ways you can dress up pants and still look good in either heels or flats, as long as the pants really highlight your overall look whether they flare or cuff.

Fall is all about layering and one fun way to do that is with hats. I'm all about hats right now, y'all. I've been rocking my burgundy fedora all day, and I would really love to add one of these other ones (maybe the felt boater, wool rancher or traditional floppy) to a fashion ensemble for the event. All hats are from Tar-jay.

I think the leather baseball cap will suffice if I go with a hard, edgy look that includes a biker jacket and some boots. The stylish conductor would work for an old-school Great Gatsby affair. The easiest ones for me to pull off would be the fedora or even the rancher, but I would love to get my hands on the felt boater, for sure.

Which pair of pants and hat do you think would work best for iFabboSFCon?
