Lookbook: The Aztec Drop Hem

This wasn't the outfit planned for today, but I had to move things around a bit. You know when you have a really great outfit but your hair is being unruly? Well, that's what happened to me this weekend, so I decided to move looks around to make things work. Plus, I've had this dress in my closet since January and this is the first time I've worn it. I even took the time to put on white nail polish! That's commitment because white polish can be a pain.

The aztec print is nice, but it's the drop hem that I love most. It makes the dress look different from front to side. Anyway, I'm off on a mini vacation this week. I'll continue to post and check in with your blogs during that time.

On the Muse: | Boohoo Dagmar Aztec drop hem dress | Flower rhinestone ear cuff c/o Trendcy | Wild Rose buckle booties c/o ShopLately | 3.1 Phillip Lim for Target mini satchel | Charlotte Russe blazer |

Movie Review: Divergent

Abnegation (selfless) | Amity (peaceful)  Erudite (intelligent) | Candor (honest) | Dauntless (brave)

Divergent
I actually read the book Divergent about three years ago and gave it a very good rating. It is the first book in a trilogy. You should consider reading it and maybe this one as well.

The plot: People are divided into five factions (see above) to keep society in order. At a certain age, you take a test to determine if you will stay in the faction you grew up in or join a different one. If you defy this test, then you can end up factionless or, even worse, Divergent.

Tris was born into Abnegation and realizes that she would fit into Erudite or Dauntless as well. She decides to join Dauntless while trying to keep her Divergence a secret. But when the rules start to break, it is her secret that will change the shape of her society forever.

To answer your questions, it is in the same vein as The Hunger Games--young girl goes against her dystopian society. But the difference between this movie and the first HG movie is that it was actually pretty good. It was just as dark as it needed to be, while showcasing a lot of the action scenes from the book. The fear landscapes are done well, and the movie is pretty strong from start to finish.

I can tell you that I was not initially impressed with the casting of Four/Tobias, but he eventually grew on me and everything else was practically how I had envisioned it.

Rating: ♥

Also, I recently watched a few movies on rental including About Time and it was quite cute. I would recommend that you see this feel good movie with some laughs. It does have some questionable time travel rules, of course, but it's really quite good once you get past that.About Time - ♥ | Ender's Game♥ | Frozen - ♥♥ | Captain Phillips - ♥♥♥ | Saving Mr. Banks - ♥♥♥♥
So, have you seen any of these movies yet? Are they even on your radar?

Inspiring Style: My ShopLately Favorites

It's been more than a year since I've been a member of ShopLately, and I'm happy to be a part of this fashion marketplace. You might have seen me wearing a lot of great pieces from the site, like baubles and shoes from a variety of small merchants. So take a look at some of the beautiful pieces you can get from this site--and for a great price--including rings, arm candy, dresses and more!

Remember my Shopaholic ear cuff? Or my Wild Rose checkered buckle booties? What about my spiked beanie? All of those and more came from ShopLately. The coolest thing is that when I see something I like, I just save it to my favorites and come back to it later. And I'm sure you spy some cute items for spring.

Have you used this site before? What do you think of my ShopLately favorites?

Lookbook: The Deconstructed

One cup avocado. One cup green tea [optional]. Quarter cup tapioca pearls. Half cup condensed milk. Ice. Blend. This is my favorite drink of the moment: an avocado bubble tea. It's my version of juicing, lol. I want to have one every day, and the only thing stopping me from doing so is the amount of calories. It might have a lot of calcium, Vitamin C and fiber, but it's laced with carbs and sugars (my two best friends). But let's be honest, it's the only way I'm going to get avocados into my diet, and I ain't mad at that.

I don't even have a Pinterest board for food. Just one for drinks and one for desserts. Because in my mind, you're either sippin' on a delicious cocktail or savoring succulent sweets. There is no in between.

But let's move on to the clothes. This is the softest blazer in existence. You need to feel it! I want to live in it. You'll want to live in it too. But I bought it in store and have no idea of the actual name of it, so you're shit out of luck. And yes to destroyed/distressed denim for spring. How do you like to style them? With heels? Flats? Booties?

On the Muse: | Cynthia Rowley sunnies | Forever 21 fedora | Target Mossimo blazer | BARE triangle tee c/o ShopLately | Charlotte Russe deconstructed denim | Forever 21 asymmetical d'orsay flats (similar) and (also cute) | Bling magazine clutch c/o ShopLately |

Esmirna - Phoenix by way of San Diego
Let me introduce you to Esmirna, a free-spirit who loves a great platform heel. She was my roomie at WWDMAGIC and I couldn't have picked a better suite mate. Her style reflects her beach-to-desert charm, plus she's the best person to watch trash TV with on a Tuesday night.

Lookbook: Spring Chic + Flirty

When I first saw this American Eagle Kate dress, I knew I would love wearing it simply because of the polka dots. Patterned pieces like this amp up your wardrobe and turn a regular item into a stunner. Then I noticed the lower back cut out and thought this dress had to be styled in a fun and flirty fashion. So I would call this spring chic + flirty with the added embellishments of a sparkly necklace, headband, booties and dramatic coat. The see-through back of the coat allows you to still get a peek at the cut out on the dress! Check out my feature alongside my blogger friend Jenmarie of SHE on the American Eagle blog for the #AEOStyle challenge for this great piece.

This look was worn on a beautiful Saturday where the first half of the day was spent truly relaxing while the second half was spent at an event that was the exact opposite of relaxation: a roller derby. I hadn't been to a roller derby in some time so it was a ton of fun seeing kick-ass women doing kick-ass things!

Musing of a Muse - Part 3

Usually I'm pretty good about knowing what I want, but sometimes I wish I didn't have to make decisions. I mean, I'm very comfortable with being me. If I don't want to do something or don't want to go somewhere, I have no qualms letting you know that. I don't feel the need to be herded with the rest of the sheep. But there are times when I have to make serious decisions, and I just wish I could go to the future and see the outcome so I could hindsight 20/20 it and know I was making the right choice. Why can't life be that simple?

"You take the blue pill - the story ends, you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe.
You take the red pill - you stay in Wonderland and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes."

I want to be shown the rabbit hole and see what type of adventure lies ahead. But what if, in fact, it is a misadventure that I don't want to be a part of? No one can know for sure, hence the beauty of the divide.

Thanks again for the votes for WWDMAGIC. Although I'm really happy that I was one of the lucky few to attend the event, I'm not a fan of popularity contests, which is what the second round of the competition was all about. Like I said, totally grateful that I was a part of such a wonderful opportunity, but I think I'm getting too old for moments where you win by fame instead of by acclaim. And this is for any type of blogger-related contest or life, in general.

With all the real crazy shit going on in Russia, Venezuela and that missing plane, I really don't have time for this so-called "news" that selfies are causing an increase in plastic surgery. First of all, there's not nearly enough evidence to support that. And secondly, don't say your selfie made you do it! Get some confidence or a better Instagram filter or just jump off the selfie bandwagon already.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

What I'm Loving in March 2014

Now that Jared Leto is an Oscar-winning actor, hopefully more people will go to his concerts and buy his music, because his band 30 Seconds to Mars is pretty great. Definitely listen to Up in the Air, This Is War & Kings & Queens if it's your first timeI saw them in concert last year and they put on a hell of a show. So, of course, I've been listening to more of their songs this month and even trying to watch old episodes of My So-Called Life, which was my favorite show 20 years ago.

What if I refer to him as Jordan Catalano for the rest of this post? If you don't get that reference, then you need to go watch all of My So-Called Life now and fall in love with Jared Leto all over again. It's just one (amazing) season.

Although it doesn't come out until April, I'm already loving the Samsung Galaxy S5 this month because I'm really excited about the upgrade. I have an S3 now and I can't wait to get my hands on the latest model, especially because of the camera that comes with it. Looking forward to some major Oscar selfie moments.

I'm so looking forward to the trends this spring, mainly because I'm simply tired of winter. But I totally love color pops and other spring trends like distressed skinny jeans. I recently bought a couple of these and I can't wait to share them on the Muse. They can be styled with heels, flats, sweaters, blazers--anything goes!

Midi skirts, midi skirts, midi skirts, midi skirts, midi skirts. If I say it enough times will a beautiful, pocketed midi appear in my hands? Because that's how badly I want one. I want more than one though, who am I kidding? I want it to fall just below the knee since I'm on the short side of life and can't wear anything that makes me look even shorter. Ain't nobody got time for that!

What are you loving this March? The simple fact that spring is in the air?
See all the great things I was loving in March last year!

Lookbook: Blossoms in the Blue

Yay for spring blossoms! They are in bloom all over and I loved seeing them. This weekend I spent my time at an Art Walk in downtown called South First Fridays. I hadn't been to one of these since Art Basel in Miami so I was looking forward to it, but there was definitely a lack of art here. Although there was an interesting performance art gallery (click at your own risk, lol).

We took a day trip to Monterey for a whale watching tour for my birthday. I was hoping to see Orcas, but it wasn't the season  for them. We did see some gray whales, sea lions and otters. I had some motion sickness and couldn't wait for the tour to be over so I could get back on land. Can you believe I'm a water sign?

WWDMAGIC: Haul Post

I thought I'd share some of the items that I received as an official blogger for WWDMAGIC. These include a lot of clothes and accessories. Even the hangers were gifted, which was awesome because now I can get rid of all those crappy wire hangers in my closet. Just hover over the image to see the name of the piece and the link to the brand's website. I put this together using Thinglink. Have you ever used it for your outfit posts? It's really cool.
I used this Cabrelli & Co. travel bag frequently while in Las Vegas. It made carrying my computer much easier. And don't get me started on the quilted shorts by Boom Boom Jeans. How awesome are those?
The twist headband from Three Bird Nest is one of my favorite things. Whenever I'm not really in the mood to do my hair I just throw it on and I'm good to go. And I can't wait to feature this Anatomie cover-up in an outfit post. It can be worn two ways!
And sharing a look I wore during one of my blogger panels, featuring an outfit from The House of Perna (on the left) and a couple items from the top of this post, including the Amarillo Limon dress & Cabrelli bag (right).
What do you think of this haul post? Have a great weekend! Oh, and my Disney Princess Fashion Bloggers post was featured in IFB: Links a la Mode this week!

TV Show Theme Songs

If you came to the Muse today and expected a more fashion-centric post, then apologies because I like to mix shit up a bit. But if you happen to like TV show theme songs, then you'll find this post quite amusing.

Everywhere You Look -- is the theme song from Full House and I still love it to this day because of two reasons: the San Francisco background means even more to me now that I've actually seen this place in person and it's where I live. And it's nostalgic as it's the only show on this list that I actually watched as a kid--without ever knowing just how crude, yet hilarious, Bob Sagat is in real life.

Little Boxes -- is quite possibly my favorite TV show theme song. This was back in the day when I used to watch Weeds. I no longer watch it as I think it kind of lost its edge, but this song will always do it for me. I actually live by a neighborhood that, I kid you not, is made up of little ticky tacky box houses. So naturally, I'm waiting for the local soccer mom to start selling weed out of her garage.

This Life - could I really do a post like this and not include anything from Sons of Anarchy? Like the show itself, there's just something really cool about this song. Maybe it's the gritty voice or how it starts very mellow and then gets amped up. Now that I think about it, that's exactly how the show goes. A match made in biker heaven.

Those Were the Days - I'll admit that some of the words in this song are a bit say what now? But I can't help that I love how cute the Bunkers look singing together at the piano. All in the Family was a show I would watch late at night, and even though I love the song, I really don't know how Edith's screech in the middle of the tune didn't give me insomnia. Or maybe it did.

Bad Things - it doesn't really matter if you like the show or not, True Blood has one of the best theme songs in existence--and the images in the opening credits are fantastic too. It's as creepy as all get out (like my use of southern slang there?), and is one of the only songs on here that I could listen to on repeat.

Fresh Prince of Bel Air - one of the best songs Will Smith has ever done is the theme song to his old show The Fresh Prince of Bel Air. I think everyone knows the lyrics to this song (but what about the extended version). "I pulled up to the house about 7 or 8, and I yelled to the cabbie, 'yo homes, smell ya lata!' OK...that's enough.

Long Hard Times to Come -- goodness, why do I like country sounding theme songs? I don't even like country music. But clearly, I have a thing for the twang in TV (see Sons of Anarchy and True Blood above). Only the chorus is used for Justified, but that's really all that's needed. If you haven't watched this show yet, I recommend you watch the opening credits and all the scenes with Boyd Crowder.

Theme Song Honorable Mentions:
-- Good Times
-- Game of Thrones
-- Angel
-- Curb Your Enthusiasm
-- The Walking Dead
-- Saved by the Bell

What are your favorite TV show theme songs?

Lookbook: Rainy Day Checkmate

Last week I was sick--almost to the point of actually losing my voice, which has never happened before. I would sing and go, "Hey, this is awesome. I sound like Janis Joplin." And then I would sing a couple hours later and go, "Oh, this is terrible. I sound like a dying cat."

The fact that it was a rainy weekend didn't help much, but I'm happy that it's finally March. We're now one step closer to the official first day of Spring (March 20).

My blouse has this really awesome quilted shoulder detail that I hope you can see. Made me feel extra cozy in the cold. And you may have seen these booties on my Pinterest page. You're following me, right? I just had to have them even though I keep telling myself that I have no more space for shoes in my closet.

Is it weird that I just want to veg out every day? Yeah, that's awful. I should only veg out every other day and be productive in between. I blame it on the weather. I hate doing things in the cold. Oh, and thanks for all the love for my Disney Princess Fashion Blogger post. I worked hard on that so I'm happy you muses liked it!

Wearing: | Shop Suey Amber sunglasses c/o ShopLately (similar) | Know Style twisted blouse c/o ShopLately | Forever 21 jeans | Luxcessories two-toned handbag c/o | Lempicka necklace c/o Amy O | Wild Rose buckle booties c/o ShopLately |
What do you think of this look?

And a few words about Sunday night's Oscars:
I'm really happy that Lupita Nyong'o won for Best Supporting Actress and that 12 Years a Slave won for Best Picture. Both were well deserved. Jared Leto had a tremendous speech to go with his beautiful hair. Happy he won as well (Best Supporting Actor). Alright, alright, alright--I know it might sound weird that Matthew McConaughey has an Oscar now (Best Actor), but Dallas Buyers Club was a hell of a movie! Oh, and the happiest moment for me was seeing Brad Pitt with an Oscar in his hand. Kudos to that beautiful man for finally taking home an Academy Award (for 12 Years a Slave). Amy Adams got robbed because she should have won for American Hustle, but Cate Blanchett was wearing the right dress for the win. Kudos!

Best dressed goes to Lupita, Kate Hudson, Cate Blanchett to name a few. Best moments go to Ellen for the best selfie ever, all the A-listers who actually ate pizza on live TV, Lupita, Meryl and Amy Adams for dancing with Pharrell, and Idina Menzel for performing after Travolta botched her name.
