Makeup and Muses: On the Go with Salonlines

A few on-the-go beauty essentials you didn't know you needed.

Parlux Hair Dryer - Even if you're traveling to a place that has a hotel room with a built-in dryer, I'd still recommend taking your own. So if you're in the market for one, consider this Parlux hair dryer that is energy-efficient, eco-friendly and lightweight.

Moroccanoil Restorative Hair Mask - Because Moroccan oil is still just as great as everyone says it is, especially this one. This is the perfect hair mask to protect your hair from the elements, whether you're traveling to the cold north or the warm south.

Aloe Clear Bikini Saver - Plan on spending your holidays some place warm this year (like the Caribbean)? Then don't forget to pack your bikini saver! This on-the-go product contains Aloe for a soothing and cooling relief, while also being pocket-size.

Moroccanoil Light Oil Treatment - This oil treatment makes styling a lot easier as it enters the cuticle of the hair instead of just sitting on the surface. So spend your holiday seeing the sights and just relaxing, instead of struggling with taming your hair.

Burt's Bees Radiance Day Creme - This lightweight moisturizer made with bee pollen minimizes fine lines and makes your face and neck look younger, which is perfect for a long day spent with friends and family on vacation.

Find all of these products and more at Salonlines. Hope you're enjoying your Thanksgiving weekend.

Disclosure: This post was sponsored by Salonlines. I was compensated to write a post on this topic but all opinions are my own.

Inspiring Style: Holiday Tablescapes

The holidays are around the corner--Thanksgiving is already here! And since I don't contribute anything whatsoever when it comes to meal preparation because I don't cook, I think this year I'll use my creative talents to decorate a lovely holiday tablescape. I've seen a lot of inspiration ideas on both Instagram and Pinterest, so I'm sharing some of my favorite tablescapes. Hopefully this will give you guys some ideas as well, if you want to get all festive and stuff. Find these images and more on my Pinterest.

GOLD LOVE - Definitely my favorite color combination for a brilliant holiday tablescape. Nothing looks more magical than a gold table filled with candlelight. The wood table is just an added bonus.
SILVER LOVE - Yes, this is a nice, crisp holiday tablescape that keeps your decorating clean. Feel free to add a lot or a little--it's really up to you. Just try to make the silverware and napkins match.
COLOR LOVE - If you want to spruce up your holiday tablescape quick and easy, then add color. You'll find a lot of red decor to go with a Thanksgiving theme, or blue decor for a Christmas theme. The red reminds you of a warm fireplace, while the blue brings in the snow--even if it doesn't snow where you live.
Do you plan on making a holiday tablescape this year? See the one I actually made on Instagram!

Lookbook: Bright Like a Diamond

For today's look, I was going for a bright and shiny ensemble as I realized that everything I was wearing had some sort of sparkle to it. The ombre nails have a glitter topcoat called Coachella on a few accent nails (from the 100% Pure Party Collection--coming soon!). Both the True Religion shirt and jeans are shiny too, especially the onyx houndstooth glamour of the jeans. And I can't forget about the midnight shimmer blazer and the gold accents on the sandals. So yeah, shining bright like a diamond today.

And to channel Rihanna in other ways, these photos were taken right before I got my latest tattoo. I now have three, although the other two are fairly hidden. No one really knows that I have tattoos, which is one of the reasons why I decided to get this new one where I got it. No--it's not on my forehead. But if you haven't seen the tattoo yet, then be sure to check it out on Instagram.

Happy Turkey Day week!

100% Pure Ombre Nail Collection Review

From left to right: | truffle | souffle | sugar | custard | gelato | pudding | tart |
I hope you're not tired of nail polishes yet, because I'm totally still into them, especially this line from 100% Pure. The new ombre collection features some of my favorite nail colors to date. As you can see, they are the perfect creamy shades for any occasion. And the glittery colors add that holiday party shine.

One of the coolest things about the 100% Pure ombre nail polish collection is the name of the colors. Tart is my absolute favorite with Gelato coming in a close second. Like the other 100% Pure products, these nail polishes are made in USA and are cruelty free. The ombre polishes contain no formaldehyde, no toluene, no DBP, no camphor, no parabens, no fragrances and no animal ingredients. The creaminess makes it super easy to apply these polishes and they're only $12 apiece.

I didn't wear any of the glittery polishes this time around, but I'll be sure to add a little sparkle to my nails with the Sugar polish for an upcoming office holiday party in December. For now, I think I'll be covering my nails in Tart all week. What about you? Do you like any of these colors from the 100% Pure ombre nail polish collection?

Lookbook: Earn Your Stripes

When I first saw this dress on the ShopLately website, I was like, "yes, I most certainly need more stripes in my life." Who doesn't like stripes? And the asymmetrical hemline--but, of course. It also comes in the opposite color pattern. If you search my blog, you'll see that I've been a fan of ShopLately for a really long time. ShopLately is a marketplace with a selection of clothing, accessories, shoes and beauty products with new arrivals every Monday. What I love so much is that I can always find something stylish for a great price, which is part of the reason why I'm a ShopLately Insider, which allows me to get free shipping on everything for just $9 a year.

I wore this fun Know Style ensemble to a lovely Blogger Friendsgiving hosted by Just Add Glam and Style Lend. About 20 Bay Area bloggers sipped on champagne, had a potluck dinner, tried on beautiful dresses and just fashionably mingled. It's always great to get together and catch up in person with the bloggers you're friends with on social. When was the last time you met up with your blog friends?

Movie Review: Interstellar

Originally, I wasn't going to do a movie review of Interstellar, but I was way too busy this week to put together another fall manicure, so this took its place. I didn't actually want to see this movie, but I heard that it was good, so the hubs and I went to see it. What I can say is that the film starts off quite strong. You understand that planet Earth is on its last legs and someone has to find a way to keep humanity alive, but you don't yet know how this will be accomplished, or even if it can be done at all.

Somewhere in the latter half of the movie--possibly around the two hour mark (yep, it inches close to 3 hours!)--the smartness of Interstellar and Christopher Nolan movies in general is sort of kicked to the curb. Things get a little ridiculous and convoluted. You ever watch a movie/show where a female scientist says or does something absolutely unscientific? Yea, that happens here too. Since I consider myself to be a smart woman, I really can't get behind that sort of thing. But then the movie picks back up in the last 10 minutes with the help of a sarcastic NASA robot named TARS.

Now I'd like to rank some Christopher Nolan movies from best to worst. Feel free to disagree with me. Have you realized that Nolan likes to work with the same cast? Michael Caine is in almost all of his movies, and he's worked with Anne Hathaway, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Christian Bale and Marion Cotillard a few times too.

The Prestige..............................Two magicians compete to see which one is the best. Turns out, the movie itself is the biggest magic trick in the entire film. My rating: ♥♥♥♥♥

Inception...............................A wanted man who spends his time extracting memories from people's minds has to now figure out how to plant a memory instead. My rating: ♥♥♥♥

Memento.............................This didn't get a lot of love at the box office, but has since become a cult favorite. A man has to solve a crime, backward and with memory loss. My rating: ♥♥♥♥

The Dark Knight Trilogy.........................A re-invented Batman with a darker, more adult story line and even more memorable villains. My rating: ♥♥♥♥

Interstellar...............................An interesting movie that mixes science with science fiction. Looks like Gravity, except it uses hardly any CGI. My rating: ♥♥♥

Transcendence..........................Ahhh...no. But technically, he only produced this--didn't write or direct. My rating: ♥

What I'm Loving in November 2014

I'm actually a bit stressed out right now, so I almost made this a "What I'm Hating" post, but that's not the point of this blog so I decided to look at the silver lining of life and highlight the few things that are putting a smile on my face this month.

Since I've always been an online shopper, I'm constantly looking for different boutique shopping sites. Recently, I've been getting into sites like Missguided and Necessary Clothing. You can actually find brick-and-mortar Necessary Clothing stores in New York. They both have a mix of fast-fashion trends and higher end classics, so what's not to love? And, of course, if you're ever feeling stressed--shop!

Granted, I've been a fan of guys with facial hair for a while, but it seemed fitting to discuss it now since we're in the middle of Movember. Although Movember is about growing just a moustache for men's health issues, this is focused on beards and goatees too. An already good looking guy only looks better with facial hair.

Every now and then I receive a Klout Perk, and my most recent one was for the Shiseido Ultimune Power Infusing Concentrate. I'm loving this right now because--as I've said--I've been quite stressed, and this enhances my skin's ability to maintain its smoothness while fighting against daily stress. And I get a complimentary Shiseido facial service too. A little pampering never hurt nobody.

If you follow me on Instagram then you know that I like to add flowers to my flat lays for added texture. And maybe it's because of all the pumpkins or the feeling of fall, but I've been loving orange roses in November. There's just something cool (and warm) about flowers in this color.

Lookbook: Intarsia-stellar - Tour Through Blogland

On the Muse: | C. Wonder intarsia sweater (similar) | Casual shirt c/o Boden | Rita crepe joggers c/o Boohoo | C. Wonder block heels | Forever 21 mini satchel | Julep Maven Annie nail polish |

Did you guess that my blog post title was a play on the new Christopher Nolan/Matthew McConaughey movie Interstellar and my awesome intarsia sweater from C. Wonder? No? Really? Yeah, it was a bit of a stretch. We took these photos across from what everyone calls "the homeless park" which is actually a nice park in downtown, but of course, it's a bit sketchy. While sitting on these steps someone actually catcalled me, which was weird but I think I just laughed it all off from sheer randomness. Do you like the new hair? My go-to hairstylist hooked me up with a cut and a lighter color. Loves it! And by the way, thanks for all the love on my True Religion feature. You muses are the best.

Have you seen #TourThroughBlogland going around a few of your favorite blogs and Instagram accounts lately? Well, I was nominated by the lovely Rhea (thanks doll!) as one of her top 3 favorite Instagram accounts. Woo-hoo! And I'm answering these questions as part of the Tour Through Blogland as well.

What am I working on? My genius. ;) I'm also working on a lot of article editing and campaigns because when you work in tech in Silicon Valley, Q4 is extremely important. But I like to daydream about vacation time and what fun things I can do during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays.

How does my work differ from others in its genre? I honestly have no idea. I'm in marketing, so I think it's pretty much the same across the board. Some might think the type of marketing I do is more fun, but the grass is always greener, right? It's better than sales, lol.

Why do I write/create what I do? The Muse is a place where I can write, create, do, be whatever and I truly appreciate having this little spot on the web and social media to be me. That's the only reason I need.

How does my writing/creative process work? Uhm, I generally get a lot of my ideas in the shower. Sometimes I get it from scrolling my Instagram feed, or even from reading articles when I wake up at 5:30 in the morning. I try to jot down the ideas in post draft titles so I know that I have a really awesome sauce idea for an upcoming post. If I need to post something but I have absolutely zero thoughts in my head, then I say "screw it" and watch Netflix or go to the gym. Don't ever force an idea or you'll end up with something completely useless.

I'm nominating these three lovely ladies to keep the thread going because I get a ton of inspiration from these Instagram accounts. Oh, and make sure that you're following me on Instagram too! I'm always on.

Makeup and Muses: DIY Fall Mani

Today I'm sharing a DIY fall manicure with you. I also did one for Halloween--I call it pumpkin nails--but this mani features two of my favorite colors for fall: gray and wine.
1. Start with a base coat and then apply Griege by Sally Hansen. This is my gray polish of choice, but feel free to use whatever you like. Leave one nail untouched as it will be your accent nail. Griege is a bit shinier than I would like, but we'll take care of that later on in the DIY.
2. Apply Wicked by Essie to your accent nail. Having an accent nail adds a bit of definition to your DIY fall manicure. This polish goes on pretty easily, and only takes two coats to look even.
3. Place Sally Hansen I Heart Nail Art Stud Kit on your nails. You can apply it however you see fit, but I added the black crystals to the bottom of my nails, and then added the gold studs in a vertical design on the accent nail. I loved the gold and black studs for this particular design, but the kit also has white crystals. The pick-up tool that's included didn't really work for me as I found it easier to place these on my nails with my fingertips.
4. Finish with the butter London matte topcoat. I felt like a matte finish would really make this manicure perfect for fall. It also allows the studs to pop a bit more. This is how I had envisioned the gray nail polish to look.

Inspiring Style: My Instagram Favorites

Remember, remember--the fifth of November! Since September I've been really into Instagram. It's been my favorite social media account for a while, but I've been challenging myself to post great images of my life every day for almost three months now. With all this time spent on Instagram, I thought I'd share my 5 favorite types of Instagram photos with you. Start following me if you're not already so we can keep in touch. Comment on my Facebook or Twitter accounts with your Instagram handles!

  1. What's On Your Feet?
    • Yes, I want to know what your shoe game is like. I'm really into shoes so I get a lot of inspiration from seeing great shoe shots--from sneakers to stilettos.
  2. How Do You Flat Lay?
    • As you know from my how-to flat lay post, I'm a big fan of this style of Instagram photography. I like seeing these because they are totally creative and super pretty.
  3. How About Your Puppy Love?
    • Being the dog lover that I am, I simply can't see a cute picture of a puppy on my feed and not heart it. It might just be a dog owner thing, but pups always get my vote.
  4. Can I Get Some Inspiration?
    • Occasionally, I like to see inspirational quotes on my feed because they put me in a good mood, especially after a particularly crappy day.
  5. What Are You Eating?
    • Yes, I know it seems silly to take pictures of your food. And it might seem ridiculous that we live in an age of photographing everything we eat before we eat it. But nice photos of food help me figure out what I want to eat during the week, lol--whether it be savory or sweet.

By the way, today (11/5/14) I am featured as the cover photo on the True Religion Facebook page with an interview to come! How exciting is that? You can see the link to the photo here.
