Throwing Shade

A couple weeks ago, my blogger friend Stella re-introduced me to the art of lampshading. I'm sure you've seen this style on the streets or the blogs in the past (but maybe didn't know it had a name). It's simply pairing an oversize sweater or dress with over-the-knee boots or booties. I've been meaning to take my new UGG® boots for a spin, and my lace-up sweater (which basically fits me like a dress), so I figured it was the perfect time to take on the lampshading trend!

I really love these McKay booties from the UGG® Classic Street Collection. Like I mentioned before, I didn't even think I would have been an UGG® girl, until I actually stepped foot in these beauties. Why didn't anyone tell me they were like walking on clouds? I really love the comfortable Treadlite cushioning and the easy slip-on style. Now that the weather is starting to cool down, these McKay booties are destined to get a lot of wear. FYI, I also have a pair of the Michelle boots from the Classic Slim Collection and I can't wait to take those out come winter.

So when I decided to pair these boots with my lace-up sweater, I knew the easiest way to style the look would be to add a pair of jeans to the mix. But I didn't want to do that, as I felt it was just a bit too casual. I opted for the lampshading look mainly because it would add some edge to a relatively simple style. And yes, I am actually wearing a pair of leather shorts under my sweater (can't be too cheeky), but I happen to be on the short side, and this sweater happens to be on the long side, so you can't really tell. I think I'll end up wearing it as a dress anyway.

Last, but certainly not least, are you guys diggin' my hairstyle? You know I love to switch it up! I actually got it done before my recent trip to Florida, but now you muses finally get to see it!

Happy Halloween!

  12. Thanks SO much for the shout out although unfortunately, I can't take full credit for the term! I think I saw it used to describe an outfit worn by one or more of the Kardashians. I rarely speak positively of that family, but in this case I'll give credit where it's due... begrudgingly with side eye. 😒 Haha!

    You look fantastic, babe! xoxo
