My CoolSculpting Story

OK! Some of you might remember me talking about CoolSculpting on the blog a few months back. At the end of April I went in for my first session and then I did a second session in May. So today I'm sharing the before and after photos with you muses. Anyway, let's start from the top!

What Is CoolSculpting?

CoolSculpting is a non-surgical, FDA-cleared procedure that eliminates body fat. It is used on a targeted area -- usually an area with stubborn fat that diet and exercise isn't helping. The CoolSculpting machine attaches to that specific area on your body and freezes away the fat. Fat cells freeze at a higher temperature than surrounding tissue, so CoolSculpting targets those fat cells until they are frozen (or crystallized) and then die. Your body then processes the fat and eliminates the dead cells. The best part is those fat cells are gone for good. Yes, you can always create new fat cells over time (depending on what you eat), but historically it's ridiculously difficult to get rid of the fat cells that are already in your body -- without a procedure like CoolSculpting -- no matter how much you exercise.

What It Was Like For Me

As you may or may not know, I workout 5-6 days a week and I try to eat right as much as possible. But over the years, I've had issues with my lower abdomen (fairly common for women) and my arms. I couldn't figure out how to lose weight in my arms no matter what I tried. So when I heard about CoolSculpting and the fact that it can target specific areas, I knew I wanted to try it. Thankfully, I was able to get my non-surgical procedure done at the offices of Dr. Shahin Fazilat in Mountain View.

The Fazilat team was super helpful and made me feel comfortable each time I went into the office. We started with a consult, which is always recommended, so we could determine if I was an ideal candidate for CoolSculpting and how many procedures I would need. If you have noticeable fat bulges in certain areas, then this procedure could be for you, but there is such a thing as being too under or too overweight for CoolSculpting.

I did my first appointment in April and my second in May. You start to see results in as little as a few weeks from the first session. And you see your full results after about three months. Each area on your body takes about 30 minutes to do. For the first five minutes, the process is quite cold and a little painful. But then the area gets numb and you don't feel anything, which made it easy for me to get some work done on my laptop while watching Netflix.

What Were My Results

Now that it's been a few months, I can finally see my end results from the CoolSculpting procedure. I don't know if you can truly see my results in these photos, but I definitely notice the changes. In my abdomen, I don't really see that lower belly issue that I used to have, and you can probably see that my flanks (sides) are slimmer as well. My arms also show a major improvement. Before I felt like I had wings and now I can really see my triceps coming through.
(sorry for the lighting: top photos are during the consult / middle photos are after the first session / bottom photos are after the second session)

Would I Recommend CoolSculpting?

Yes, I would totally recommend CoolSculpting. If you're a good candidate for it and you feel like you're not getting the results you desire with diet and exercise, then you should give this procedure a try. I love that it's non-surgical and mostly painless. But if this isn't something for you, then you could probably try to get your desired results by being very adamant and deliberate with what you eat. I feel like that could work with certain areas of the body (like your stomach), but I'm not entirely sure that would do much in the way of slimming your arms.
If you're in the California Bay Area and are looking for a great place for CoolSculpting and other procedures (fillers, hydrafacials, laser hair removals, etc.), then check out the offices of Dr. Fazilat. And join them for a Fall Fiesta with live demos from 5-8pm on Sept. 27!

  10. This is great information; I have heard (from TV ads) and read a bit about the procedure previously but this review is certainly more detailed and authentic since it’s from your personal experience, I have had trouble losing weight on my stomach and arms too....:-) This procedure is definitely something to think about.

  17. I'm so happy that you did a review of this. I only know one person who has tried this. I was on the fence but I love that it's non-surgical. What a difference! I workout almost everyday and I think most all women have at lease one area that they would one to work on. This sounds very promising. Would love to try this out.
