Insta Lately: July 2019

Thank you for all the comments on my previous post. Your words are much appreciated. Here's to a new blog post on the Muse! It's been more than a year since my last Instagram Lately post and for good reason. So here's a little Insta update featuring stuff that didn't make it to the blog with a bit of background commentary. The background commentary is the whole reason why I do these blog posts, by the way, so you can know what really went into creating the photo. Do you have any funny IG stories to share? Hope you enjoy -- follow me here if you want.

// OFF on the Hoochee -- 6.20 \\
A couple weeks before this photo was taken, I had discovered this coffee shop located right on the Chattahoochee River when I went on a lunch date with a friend. You really couldn't ask for a more serene view to drink a chai latte. So I decided to go back there for this brand photo even though I'm not really dressed for adventuring as you can see. I'm also very back and forth when it comes to my athletic build. At times I am in love with my guns (do you even lift, bro?), while other times I'm like put those things away. My arm is clearly having a moment here.

When I found Amorino Gelato in Buckhead I knew that I just had to stop by for 1) delicious gelato that I became a fan of during my trip to Italy last year and 2) a sweet treat dressed up to look like a rose. But, it's quite hard to photograph things that melt. Also, I later realized that in order to get the best looking gelato rose you would need at least four layers and probably flavors that I wouldn't normally eat, so I opted for tastiness over photo worthiness.

// Keep It Fresh -- 1.15 \\
For this HelloFresh campaign I had to make this dish. I don't cook so this meal service is perfect for me. But even the idea of cooking for a photo was annoying, lol. I mean, do I even know how to properly hold a knife here? The plan came with three different dishes and I ended up only making two of them. The third dish stayed in my fridge past its sell by date because I got too lazy to make it.

// Blurred Vegan -- 11.9 \\
I announced my vegetarianism on IG with this photo of vegan food I got delivered. I tagged the restaurant to make it clear that I didn't make this food myself, but you don't know how long it took to get this image just right. The bokeh (blur) while keeping the background all white was not easy. I totally had to re-heat the food when I was finally done.

// Not So Smart Popcorn -- 7.19 \\
I did a campaign with Smartfood Popcorn last summer. Their popcorn is ridiculously delicious, especially the white cheddar flavor. The point of this post was about having the movie theater experience at home with popcorn and Netflix. But I sent the brand a photo with me watching Netflix and they said I couldn't use that image so I had to use this one with the blank screen. So it's like...what am I even looking at? LOL

// Pink Records -- 5.22 \\
You can't tell because of the brightness level on this pic, but this is an Of Monsters & Men record. I shared it since this was to promote a music post on here and because this record is pink - how cute is that? I'm currently in the process of collecting more records, but unfortunately, none of them are pink. I had to stand on my dining table to get this shot.

// Going Away -- 3.8 \\
This is when I was traveling to southern California for the BNP Paribas tennis tournament last year. The way this bag is packed is purely for photo purposes. The accessories clearly wouldn't fit and I also didn't take the palm print. Every other piece was true to the packing experience, but it did take forever to get this shot, again standing on my table.

  1. Your shots are gorgeous- isn't it crazy how much staging (and shooting over and over) it requires to get THE shot? Like if I do a shoot in my kitchen, I need to remove 80 things from the counter, even though I swear I don't have THAT many things out... Blogger probs, ha.

    And I think your guns are awesome, sis!

    1. Haha, and I am such an OCD neat freak that as soon as I'm done with the photo, the first thing I do is put everything back exactly how it was!

  3. haha, I love the backstory on your photos! I've stood on chairs and photo-shopped brand names out etc before too. My photos are no where near as beautiful as yours. You put a lot of work into them and you have an amazing eye for creating a beautiful shot. I really love your photos!

    1. Thanks, Cathy. Photoshopping out brand names sounds like so much work. For my photo above, I had taken a shot with the Netflix logo and one without just in case.

    1. I usually put my photos in the Photogrid app beforehand to see what they'll look like, but it doesn't always work out that way, so eff it, lol.

  11. These behind-the-scenes stories are great, Cheryl:) Some don't even realize how hard it is sometimes to just get everything right. Sometimes, even the simple shots I take of my sketchbook that I post on Twitter takes me a few dozen times just so that it looks ok...and even then, I'm like, it still could've been better:D
    Anyhoo, I am so envious of your arms. I'll show them off all the time if mine are that toned!

    1. Most of the time I'm happy with my shots, but I totally feel you as there are times when I really don't love how something turned out, even though I spent what felt like 100 years on it!

  12. Thanks for the fun update! I'm so over IG between the stupid algorithm and the spon-con that I really haven't been on there much lately.

    1. So as you know I just got back into blogging and IG and I'm already over IG, lol. So many changes all the time. I'm trying to do my best to make it work (like I recently deleted a lot of accounts that followed me and that I followed so I could start seeing accounts that I haven't seen in a while), but I don't think I'll be posting much on there once the summer is over. And I love that term "spon-con" lol

  13. I love the commentary on all the photos, something complietly different. Lmao at wasting the last lot of food because you were too lazy, Sounds like my story. Don't like wasting food just didn't get round to it. I don't like showing the tops of my arms either for the same reason. Cute post Che : ) xo
