I actually read the book Divergent about three years ago and gave it a very good rating. It is the first book in a trilogy. You should consider reading it and maybe this one as well.
The plot: People are divided into five factions (see above) to keep society in order. At a certain age, you take a test to determine if you will stay in the faction you grew up in or join a different one. If you defy this test, then you can end up factionless or, even worse, Divergent.
Tris was born into Abnegation and realizes that she would fit into Erudite or Dauntless as well. She decides to join Dauntless while trying to keep her Divergence a secret. But when the rules start to break, it is her secret that will change the shape of her society forever.
To answer your questions, it is in the same vein as The Hunger Games--young girl goes against her dystopian society. But the difference between this movie and the first HG movie is that it was actually pretty good. It was just as dark as it needed to be, while showcasing a lot of the action scenes from the book. The fear landscapes are done well, and the movie is pretty strong from start to finish.
I can tell you that I was not initially impressed with the casting of Four/Tobias, but he eventually grew on me and everything else was practically how I had envisioned it.
Rating: ♥♥♥♥
Also, I recently watched a few movies on rental including About Time and it was quite cute. I would recommend that you see this feel good movie with some laughs. It does have some questionable time travel rules, of course, but it's really quite good once you get past that.

So, have you seen any of these movies yet? Are they even on your radar?

Never seen this movie, maybe I'll read the books first and then watch the movie. It does sound interesting. Happy Friday doll x
ReplyDeletedivergent is on my list to see!
ReplyDeleteOh i just got a chance to watched Frozen and i am simply loving it. Nice review... :)
ReplyDeleteI love the Divergent trilogy; but have yet to see the film. I have heard so many mixed reviews that I'm a little scared too; though I trust your taste - will have to check this one out.
ReplyDeleteP.S. I have never tried Vinylux polishes. There was a shade that I wanted a few months back, but it was overpriced {$14.95 at Sally}, so I didn't get it. :/
xx
I was wondering if the Divergent film would good, I've heard so much about it, so thanks for the review. I've not seen any of these films, but did enjoy the book.

As a huge Divergent series fan (even though I was not a huge fan of the book 3 end), I am sooo looking forward to this movie, Cheryl. I actually thought that the Four casting was perfect but iffy with Shailene. Good to know the movie lives up to the hype. Haven't seen it yet, but now dying to more than ever.
ReplyDeletelooking so amazing i really love this post
ReplyDeleteI posted a new article, I'd love to know your opinion

I really liked About Time and Divergent. I think Hunger Games 2 was awesome, so hopefully Divergent can keep it up in the sequel as well.
ReplyDeleteI originally thought all the casting was bad, so glad to see i was wrong.

I think I should maybe read the book before I watch the movie to get a better grounding, sounds good. Is About Time similar to the other time travel movie Rachel was in? Looking forward to your review on The Grand Budapest Hotel, please let me know when its up.
ReplyDeleteAbout Time is on my Friday night movie list. I wanted to see it in the theaters but that just didn't happen.
