Don't mean to be that blogger who talks about the weather (again), but I just have to say that I checked the 10-day forecast and grinned from ear to ear. We are getting highs in the 70s and 80s without any rain! The reason why this is so awesome is that it's the first day of May and it's finally starting to feel like spring, which means I get to wear dresses and shorts again. So let's start off with this look that I rocked this past weekend featuring some key details: stripes, chambray and embroidery! I mean, I could go take a bike ride to a beach boardwalk with this look.
This past weekend was also the hubs' birthday. Usually we do big trips for his birthday (he's an extrovert, which means that big groups give him more energy -- as an introvert, big groups tend to drain my energy). We've done ski trips in Flagstaff, beach stays in Vero Beach, excursions in Jamaica, vacation homes in Costa Rica, etc. But this time we decided to keep it low key and just do a day trip to Davenport and Santa Cruz. I think I might be turning him into an introvert, lol.
Lastly, I want to say a quick little thing about all the buzz around Instagram lately. People have been talking about shadowbanning, posting images in DMs, etc. Some places say all these things are rumors, while others seem to believe it all to be true. I do think Instagram is constantly changing its algorithm, and that doesn't always work well when it comes to our engagement (likes and comments). But Instagram is becoming (probably since last year, actually) so annoying with all the chatter about numbers, bans, untrustworthy websites and the like.
All I can say to this is if you want to enjoy Instagram, then just focus on yourself. Put out quality images with compelling captions and remember that your BLOG is number one. Post images that make you happy, even if that means only posting two images a week. Write captions that tell a story or that give your readers something more than just saying "shop this look with the liketoknowit app" (hate those). And remember that no matter the ups and downs of Instagram, you'll always have your blog. That's your bread and butter.

Lucky that you are getting nice weather. I can't wait until it becomes consistent here! I am with ya about Instagram. We can't just rely on our platform regardless if the algorithm consistently changes!

So nice you're getting nice weather, it's still cold and rainy here. Great thoughts about Instagram. I was vacationing last week so I didn't hear any complaining about Instagram, but I did notice I lost a lot of followers and couldn't figure out why. But like you said, I will just continue with what I've been doing.
ReplyDeleteLucky you! Send us some of that nice dry weather over here:D Anyhoo, looking good, Cheryl:) Love the shoes! And belated happy bday to your hubby!
ReplyDeleteCouldn't agree more with you about IG. Sometimes I feel the need to slow down and other times I post every day. Focus on your own content. Good advice.
ReplyDeleteP.S. Happy Birthday to Ari!

ReplyDeleteOMG, loving your booties! If I weren't on a spending freeze I'd so be making a purchase lol.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing such great thoughts on the IG ups & downs. As a newbie, it is difficult learning the ins & outs with so many crazy things happening, but I will continue to do just as you suggested: post quality content and know that if I build it they will come (and stay).
Take care and be blessed!

I'm loving this look, Cheryl! The top is everything! And I'm glad you guys are getting great weather. Happy Belated Birthday to your husband, btw. My husband and I are both introverts so while we celebrate EVERYTHING in large groups, we always do something small with just us no matter the occasion.
ReplyDeleteAnd I totally feel you on the Instagram chatter. Thanks for sharing that piece of advice with us. I am always so inspired by your beautiful feed. Hope all is well and that your May is off to a great start!
