Last week I mentioned that I went to the Urban Air Market in Oakland -- a pop-up marketplace. And that's actually where I got this top, from a local artisan from the area. So I bought the top because it's in the style I like and I wanted to give my money to the local community. And even though I really do love this current style, I feel like I'm going to have to give it a rest after the summer.
Off-shoulder pieces are fantastic, but I'm starting to see them in my dreams, lol. Like I said, I might have a couple more to share before we move out of this season, but I'm actually really looking forward to fall fashion. Bring on the layers and the too-cold-for-off-shoulder looks!
Somewhat related, an Instagram friend recently said on one of my photos, "knew this was your shot before even seeing the name." A comment like that actually really makes me happy -- it means that my photos have become a brand. You know a Cheryl photo as soon as you see it, which is great. But at the same time, it bothers me (and this is nothing at all against the person who said it). It makes me question if I've become too predictable and repetitive. So I think it's time for a new perspective!
What do you think of consistency? Is it good for your brand or is it boring?

I think it's absolutely GREAT for your brand! Trust me - your pics are far from boring. Your style is beautiful and very "you", and the dreamy, light quality of your shots is consistent. Good for your!
ReplyDeleteI think it's awesome to have an identifiable brand! I hope I have one too and do play with shots occasionally as well. It's all about evolving our aesthetic right?
ReplyDeleteConsistency is something positive for the most part and even more so when it comes to a brand or an image. But at the same time I also think it's important to still be creative instead of being repetitive.
ReplyDeleteI like the top and even more knowing that it was locally made ;)
ReplyDeleteIn regards to your question, I think consistency is good, not boring.
This top is totally awesome, Cheryl! I actually want to sew something like this:D And yay to consistency. I also think it's great when you have a style that is uniquely you:)
ReplyDeleteWhat a perfect top! I can't say no to anything that has ruffles in it!

omg girl so into this top!! your photos are AMAZING too!!
ReplyDeleteSupporting local businesses is always a great idea and the top is beautiful. Also, I think consistency is a good thing especially when you know you are doing your best and getting results too. Happy Monday
ReplyDeleteSuch a cute top..love how you styled it. Is nice to help local designers.
ReplyDeleteI think consistency is great for our brand, but as a creative, once I start feeling bored, I have to change it up. In the past, I've been afraid to change my aesthetic out of fear of how it would be perceived by my audience, but that's obviously the wrong mentality - we have to feel inspired in order to inspire others! So it totally depends on where you are with your content. If you feel comfortable then you're obviously in that sweet spot, but the minute you start to get bored, it's time to change it up!

I think we all go through the cycle - we like consistency (aka branding) and then we change, our outlook changes and hence our aesthetics. That is why I think it is hard to put 'branding' on a person. People are forever changing, else they get boring. Products now are a whole other thing!
ReplyDeleteYou look super cute in this outfit!

Loving the top, babe! I think branding is so important and if people can recognize you and your vibes on the spot, then you're on the right track! Have a wonderful week!

I think it's natural to evolve, when it came to blogging for me I made a conscious decision to change things and it's paid off. But, fashionwise, it can be a different animal, consistency/branding is important to an extent. I've had people recognise my images because of the styling so I think it's a positive thing. If it's boring though, then perhaps a change is good. Either way, loving that top. :)
ReplyDeleteThis outfit is gorgeous, the blue looks amazing on you!!
ReplyDeleteThis top is beyond gorgeous! I love off shoulder tops too, but it just occurred to me that I have styled a lot this season lol! You look fabulous!
