Fashion Headlines for June 2011
The fashion headlines this month seem to be tailored around designer collaborations, which I love. This wasn't planned, I swear.
I think we've all recently heard that Donatella Versace has finally decided to collaborate with H&M for a line this fall. I believe it's set to debut both online and in stores come November.
The line boasts a lot of studded looks, which can be seen here.
All I know is, if the collab is really great, then I'm going to be one of the first in line at my local H&M so I can grab all my fave goodies. I won't let what happened to me at the Lanvin collab, which I mentioned in this inspiring style post, happen again here. I will not be tardy for that party.
♥♥ Vera Wang for David's Bridal - Speaking of designer collaborations--remember when I wrote that Vera Wang debuted "White By Vera Wang" for David's Bridal? Well now she also has a bridesmaids line to go with it.
I'll be attending a wedding next month although not as a bridesmaid. How awesome would it be to rock one of these gowns this summer?

♥♥♥ This next collaboration isn't really starring a big brand name or designer, but instead features an award-winning television show.
Banana Republic has teamed up with Janie Bryant, the costume director of Mad Men, to make the Mad Men capsule collection.
The 65-piece line for both men and women is slated to come out this August, and is of course inspired by the 1960s fashion depicted on the show.
The best thing about the collection, other than the 60s inspiration (hello!), is that it also features accessories like pearl necklaces, bowler hats, pumps and more!
Women will love dressing like Betty and men will embody Don.
♥♥♥♥ And while these collaborations will probably go strong, some other collabs may not be going so well. It's been rumored that the Miley Cyrus and Max Azria line for Wal-Mart might be falling on hard times.
I, for one, have never seen her line for Wal-Mart, but that could be due to one of two things: 1) Her style is probably too young for me; 2) I haven't been in a Wal-Mart in three years.
The line debuted back in the fall of 2009, but it seems like neither Miley nor BCBG will be able to save it if the brand keeps making cuts and refinancing.
♥♥♥♥♥ (Not collaboration related) Azzedine Alaia has some interesting things to say about Anna Wintour and Karl Lagerfeld.
Alaia basically calls Lagerfeld "a caricature" who has never touched a pair of scissors in his life. He doesn't like his fashion and he doesn't think he's good for young designers who may be getting the wrong impression of what being a designer is all about.
He then said Wintour knows the business of fashion but not fashion itself. He says the way she dresses shows that she doesn't have much style and that others are in agreement but are too afraid of not being photographed in Vogue to say it out loud.

Yeah, I don't know about the Cyrus/Azaria collaboration. What 12-year-olds even know what BCBG is?

ReplyDeleteExcited for the versace x h&m collab ^^ great post!
ReplyDeleteLoving the Vera Wang collection, and the Versace for H&M is thrilling!!! I love Donatella!
ReplyDeleteAs for as the "interesting talk" that was probably not the best thing to say about 2 of the most powerful people in the industry.

i love vera wang's bridal dresses! so amazingly beautiful!
ReplyDeleteVersace and h&M should be interesting .. but I am never motivated to buy these lines. I haven't picked up even a single collaboration between any big brand and H&M/Target/etc.
ReplyDeleteAlaia's views are controversial but I have to say that I have thought the same about Wintour. Her style is not as inspirational as Vogue! Don't know about Karl. Haven't read up much on him to make a comment! :)

Very excited to this collection :) Happy Thursday babe xx
ReplyDeletefor sure that collaboration will be a big hit. cant wait for that.
ReplyDeleteAlthough collabs normally work really well I think the one with Miley Cyrus and Max Azria was doomed from the start. I still imagine her as a child so she probably would of been better teaming up with a child designer. Her fans probably don't even know who Max Azria is. Get in the queue with everyone else for the H&M/Versace one. It's going to be huge I think.

ReplyDeleteI think the Alaia comments are so funny and I'm really excited about the Versace & Mad Men collabs. I've seen the Miley stuff in Walmart back when I lived close to one but it's all so gross I wouldn't go near it. I'm surprised it's actually still around.
