Movie Review: Don Jon

He's been featured on the Muse five different times for his looks, his acting and his musical talents (just put his name in my search bar and you'll see). Now I'm also featuring him for his ability to not only star in a good film, but to both write and direct one as well. Joseph Gordon-Levitt is the driving force behind Don Jon, a movie about a "guido" who has a set way that he sees the world, and the only things that are important to him are: his body, his car, his church and his porn.

Things turn upside down for him when he falls hard for Barbara (played by Scarlett Johansson), who is not a fan of his addiction to pornography. Jon has to decide between his girlfriend Barbara or his favorite pastime. Or maybe he just needs a little guidance from an unexpected source, aka, Julianne Moore.
What you should take from this is that Don Jon is a very funny movie with a lot of great acting by the main characters. JGL definitely shows that he is one talented former child actor. Totally the creme de la creme of the child actor crop (even though it is a bit weird seeing him so bulky).

But I must say, I think the movie falls a bit flat at the very, very end. Yet, I can't really get too mad about it because it was still quite entertaining. If you're into JGL then go ahead and see this and enjoy yourself for a couple hours. Otherwise, spend your movie theater time watching Rush because I must say, Chris Hemsworth is just as hot. And the movie's good too.

My rating:

  5. Good review! I saw it too and totally agree that the movie fell flat at the end. Didn't really believe in his relationship with the Julianne Moore character. But it was such a funny movie, it's forgivable!

  13. OOh I'm so glad I saw this review because I really want to see this (of course it's sold out here in Zurich) but hopefully will be in more theaters. I heard JGL talking about it on Howard Stern last week and it's so cool hearing the background of how he wanted to make this film. Too bad it falls a bit flat but I'd still see it too, I'm easily entertained. LOL. Nice review Cheryl

  18. I'm one of those people that would go see the movie just for JGL (that first pic is gold!) I've heard pretty good things about it as well, although I like to judge for myself.
