The Who: BottleRock Napa Valley
The Who: BottleRock Napa Valley
The What: A music, wine and food festival
The When: Friday-Sunday, May 25-27, 2018
The Where: Napa Valley, California
Last year, I went to my first ever BottleRock Napa Valley festival. You might remember that I did a short recap of it in this Chandon + BottleRock outfit post on the blog. Even though I'm not the biggest fan of large outdoor concerts, I am a true lover of music. So when I saw the lineup for this year's event, I really couldn't say no. And it's definitely a classier Coachella. I mean: wine! Since the festival spans three days, there was no way that I was going to be able to see everyone I wanted to see (there has to be a big headliner each day), so I had to pick the day that suited me best. And like I said, I'm not built for outdoor festivals. I couldn't do all three days even if I wanted to.
Who I'll Be Missing:
I'll be attending the show this Friday, so that means I'll have to miss out on some great performances by people like:
- The Killers (Saturday headliner)
- Snoop Dogg (Saturday)
- Billy Idol (Saturday)
- E-40 (Saturday)
- Bruno Mars (Sunday headliner)
- The Revivalists (Sunday)
- Thievery Corporation (Sunday)
- Halsey (Sunday)
From this list, I'm most upset about missing The Killers (I could listen to Smile Like You Mean It on repeat -- but I have seen them in concert in the past). And the hubs is probably most annoyed about missing Bruno Mars. That man is like the male Beyonce -- the ultimate performer. But let me tell you a bit about who I do get to see!
Who I Get to See:
Bless my late '90s/early '00s heart. If I had it my way, Incubus would only play songs from their albums Make Yourself and Morning View, granted, those came out 19 and 17 years ago, respectively. I'm one of those people who hardly listens to new music and swears that the music of my time was the best music, ever. I've become your parents.
Incubus songs I hope to hear:
- Anna Molly
- Dig
- Talk Shows on Mute
- Are You In?
- Wish You Were Here
Muse
It's kind of ironic that my blog is called Oh to Be a Muse, yet I was dead certain that I didn't know any Muse songs. Fortunately, I was wrong. Turns out, I actually had one Muse song on my playlist that I've probably known for a decade. But I did take the time to listen to some of their other songs and luckily found a couple more that I enjoyed.
Muse songs I hope to hear:
- Starlight
- Madness
- Uprising
Phantogram
I forgot to mention that I've actually seen Incubus in concert before (like 12 years ago), and that I saw Phantogram in concert maybe four years ago. They're always great to watch -- female lead singers for the win! They can play anything from 2010-2015 and I'll be golden.
Phantogram songs I hope to hear:
- Fall In Love
- Mouthful of Diamonds
- When I'm Small
- Don't Move
- Black Out Days
- Something from their Big Grams collab with Big Boi from Outkast (Fell in the Sun, Lights On, Goldmine Junkie)
Earth, Wind & Fire
You know when you go to a concert and you hope the artist plays your song, and the concert is just a little less great if they never do? Well, I know that won't be an issue when it comes to Earth, Wind & Fire because when you're a legendary band, you always play the favorites.
Earth, Wind & Fire songs I hope to hear:
Remember when Taylor Swift did a cover of Earth, Wind and Fire's September? Let's forget that. I should also mention that The Chainsmokers are performing Friday night, but I don't think I'll be listening to their set, so...yeah. Bring on the wine.
Any concerts or festivals on your horizon? If you're in the Bay Area and want to attend BottleRock Napa Valley this weekend, check out the ticket exchange. Maybe I'll see you there!

OK! I love myself a good music festival! My city, Ottawa, is home to the biggest music festival in the world - Bluesfest (don't be fooled my the name, there is music for everyone). I saw Muse last year (Uprising got the crowd BUMPIN), saw Snoop countless times (amazing), Earth, Wind & Fire was AWESOME, The Killers, I hated - terrible, but my husband is a huge fan, Billy Idol I saw in Seattle and remains one of the best, most hilarious shows I've ever seen and Bruno Mars is easily the most fun concert I've ever been too. What a line up! Sounds like a blast!
ReplyDeleteHope you had a fun weekend at Bottlerock!
