No, I did not wake up at 4 a.m. to watch the Royal Wedding. Sleep is too precious. But I did catch the coverage on both TV and Instagram later in the day. Although I wasn't a big fan of her dress, I did enjoy the veil, the simple makeup, and I loved her reception dress. Also, I liked the overall vibe of the wedding: Prince Charles walking her down the aisle; the children holding the back of her gown; and that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex had that amazing choir. It was cool, too, that she had people like Serena Williams and Priyanka Chopra in attendance.
So I had already planned this polka dot and gingham look for weeks, but after waking up to Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, I felt like I needed to add something to the look: this fascinator. I actually bought this for a 1920s themed party a few months back, but thought it would fit here. You can't have a royal wedding inspired look without a hat! P.s., Amal Clooney and Lady Kitty Spence had the best fascinator hats that day. Am I right?
OK, back to the look. The first thing that attracted me to this dress was the asymmetrical neckline. It did me in! I mean, how could you not love that. And polka dots are great. We all know that. But I had to ask myself -- would polka dots still be great if paired with gingham? Yes. The answer was, is and will always be yes.
These Lola Shoetique block heel sandals that you might remember from here are so perfect for summer that I just had to find a way to include them on the blog. And then I had these trendy cat eye sunglasses just dying to get worn. But one of my favorite accessories in this entire look are the earrings, actually. They're clip-on and they're fabulous!
On Saturday, the hubs and I attended Maker Faire, which touts itself as a festival of invention and creativity -- part science fair, part county fair. It's a great event to attend if you're into tinkering, DIY crafting and robots galore. Later that night we went and watched Deadpool 2 and thought it was pretty fun. What did you think? And no. I definitely did not wear this polka dot and gingham ensemble to Maker Faire. This look is way more high tea than steampunk.
Oh, and if you're unsure of this polka dot look as a dress, you should know that it comes in a top version, too!

Lovin the polka dot dress, Cheryl:) Also love the addition of the fascinator. And thank you for saying that about her dress! I thought I was the only one who didn't love it. Kate's wedding dress was more my cup of tea. I did like the Stella McCartney dress as well she wore at the reception though.
ReplyDeleteThat fascinator is totes fabulous and it makes such a chic style statement with that dress!
ReplyDeleteThose polka dots are so much fun! And I love that fascinator!

I enjoyed the vibes of the royal Wedding too and agree that Amal Clooney’s Fascinator was one of the best. I also loved Serena’s and Oprah’s look too but Amal’s whole look was the winner for the day in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteI love your mixed print pairing of polka dots and gingham prints and actually swooned over that Gingham Sandals when I saw it on Insta. Happy Monday 😃

How gorgeous are you!! I love the whole look! xo
ReplyDeleteI LOVE this! This fascinator is AWESOME!!! And the polka dots are on point. OK - full disclosure: I feel Givenchy could have done a better job with Meghan Markle's dress. It seemed ill-fitting and too big for her. It was a tad boring too. Sigh. She was completely resplendent in her reception dress though. WOW!
ReplyDeleteYou would've slayed in this at the royal wedding!
