Songs to Start the New Year

This is how much music has changed since I was young. All the artists have the craziest names these days. And it seems like the popular music in the most recent years are either pop/rap duos or emo/pop combos. But with all that being said, there are still some good tunes in 2017 (good for various reasons) that I think will either make your body move or your skin tingle. And be sure to let me know your favorite song at the moment! I love knowing the music of the muses.

The Weeknd ft. Daft Punk: Starboy - It's not a new song as it's been out for a few months already, but I could listen to it every day. His music videos are a little cray cray, but his songs are just so memorable. He's playing up his Michael Jackson vibe with this one. And I listen to it -- on repeat -- whenever I workout. It's hard to not dance on the stair master.

Kaleo: Way Down We Go - My favorite band from Iceland is still Of Monsters and Men, but Kaleo is kind of killing it right now. Who knew Iceland produced so much talent? Plus, I will always have a soft spot for any vocalist with a raspy tone to their voice. And is it just me, or does the lead singer look like a former model?

Rae Sremmurd ft. Gucci Mane: Black Beatles - I always have to add a song to my playlist that's a little more hip, even though I never thought I would ever have a Rae Sremmurd song featured on the Muse. And I never thought they'd still be around after No Type and No Flex Zone. But Black Beatles hit #1 on the charts, which shows that these brothers born in the '90s (yes, I'm old), know how to write a hook that sticks in your damn head.

Bruno Mars: 24K Magic - Yes, I already agree with you. There is a part of me that's tired of hearing this song. That's true. But I find that if I just don't listen to it for a week or so then bring it back, I simply can't keep myself from jamming to it. And can I just say that I felt exactly the same way about Locked Out of Heaven, Uptown Funk and his version of Amy Winehouse's Valerie. You're going to love the song Perm from his new album, too.

Bishop Briggs: Wild Horses - Switching from the body shakers to the skin tinglers, this song just showcases some glorious vocals. Bishop's voice reminds me of people like P.J. Harvey and the band Haim. How could you not like her tone. Plus, it's nice seeing a new face in the music world, don't you agree?

Amine: Caroline - To be honest with you man, I randomly came across this song on YouTube because there are so many dance routines to it. And then I watched pretty much all the routines and couldn't get the song out of my head. So much so that I even referenced it here. What I really love about this song is the fact that I hope people will start to refer to beautiful (inside and out) women as Carolines, like how they did with the term Betty back in the day. "You're a total Betty." or "She's such a Caroline." Isn't this reminding you of Clueless?

  8. Great list! I pretty much love everything Bruno Mars puts out. He's awesome. Starboy is really catchy, but the stations around here overplay it to the point that I'm kinda over it now -- although I absolutely love The Weekend and Daft Punk. Thanks for sharing!
