All Aboard the Napa Valley Wine Train: Experiencing the Ambassador Winery Tour

Doing something a little different today! Usually, you'd see an outfit post on Monday. But I did something really fun this weekend that I just couldn't wait to share with you muses. This week, the hubs' mom and aunt are visiting (not sure why they'd leave the sunshine in Florida for the rain in Cali), and we spent the last couple of days in wine country. I really wanted them to experience wine country in a unique way, so we did a tour on the Napa Valley Wine Train.

What Is the Napa Valley Wine Train

The Napa Valley Wine Train offers full service dining on board an antique train that runs on 25 miles of track through the heart of Napa Valley. While seated in exquisitely restored vintage rail cars, you get to experience multiple course meals and fine wine on the inside, while enjoying the rolling hills of wine country on the outside.

Dining Journeys

The Napa Valley Wine Train offers various dining journeys. You can have an elegant experience in the beautiful Vista Dome or even get your Agatha Christie on with a Murder Mystery Dinner Theater. Since we only had one day to work with, we did one of their day trip tours: the Ambassador Wine Tour.

Ambassador Winery Tour

If you're looking to fill up a day in wine country, then you must check out one of the day tours offered by the Napa Valley Wine Train. They have a castle tour that takes you to Castello di Amorosa (I went there my first time in Napa); a tour that takes you to Raymond Vineyards; a Grgich Hills Estate tour that focuses on chardonnay; and the Ambassador Winery Tour.
This tour gives you a traditional wine experience by taking you to exclusive tastings at both Raymond Vineyards and the oldest winery in Napa Valley -- Charles Krug Winery. The Charles Krug Winery had a lot of great history, but I wouldn't say that it's very memorable. But Raymond Vineyards was wonderful and had a very eco-friendly vibe. Our tour guide, Moss, showed us around the vineyards, which included an area for dogs to play, a goat and chicken section, and even an albino peacock. This winery is also where you can find John Legend and Chrissy Teigen's wine brand LVE: Legend Vineyard Exclusive. We were able to taste their Chardonnay, which was delightful. We even bought it!

What We Loved

The Ambassador Winery Tour started around 11 a.m. and ended around 4 p.m. Some of our favorite moments from the tour included the complimentary welcome glass of champagne when you first arrive on the train. We also upgraded our seats to the Vista Dome that gave us beautiful views of Napa Valley. And we also loved our tour guide, Tasha, and our time at Raymond Vineyards. Here's a list of what the tour offered:
  • Welcome taste of champagne
  • Lunch that included an appetizer, soup, salad, entree and dessert
    • Dishes include duck confit, pumpkin soup, gemelli pasta, wine pairings and more
  • An hour at Charles Krug Winery
  • An hour at Raymond Vineyards
If you're in the Bay Area or plan to visit wine country in California some time soon, then add the Napa Valley Wine Train to your list. There's no better way to experience wine country. Cheers!

PS That wall of hands is kinda freaking me out a bit though coz it reminds me of that scene from Labyrinth:P
